Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 13 [END]

Tigre uses his mettle to overcome his grief and defeats Thenardier in single combat. The king forges a new peace between Alsace and Leitmeritz. Series Finale.

Heh.

That was a nice conversation Elen had with Tigre to remind him how he continues through adversity. While Elen has pride in battle as a War Maiden, Tigre has mettle, battle tested resilience. Hunters have only themselves and their bow to rely on, and at heart, that's what Tigre the backwoods duke has always been.

Well, the prime minister making a surprise visit made all that work to prove Regin the princess seem unnecessary.

Mashas got a kick out of Tigre using his honest negotiating style to make the Prime Minister Badouin want to keep his land in the hands of Brune.

Whoo! Elen and Lim used to be mercenaries.

Tigre and Princess Regin enter Artesium to prove her royal ties only to find Thenardier already there. Tigre suffers a loss close to home during a cave in.

Heh.

Oh man, Bertrand. Don't go strewing death flags all over the floor of Tigre's tent! Titta has to clean that up.

This episode had to front load all the funny sexy moments because we were going to a dark place near the end, figuratively and literally. Good thing nobody was claustrophobic, although some people might be after that cave in.

It appears all the candidates who are in the running to share Tigre's bed now know not to wake him up with blood lust.

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 11

Regin the refugee turns out to be related to the king, but needs to go to Ganelon's capital to prove her identity. Mira and Elen work together to defeat Thenardier's new dragons.

Heh.

Whoa whoa whoa! Things are moving fast in this episode.

I was right. That blonde refugee is the child of the King. But they gave us a great revelation about Regin the refugee. She's actually the Prince that was supposed to have been killed in the first episode! Not only has Regin been pretending to be a boy since even the last time Tigre met her 10 years before, but she also pretended to be dead after that battle where Tigre was taken prisoner by Elen. She was attacked by assassins during a surprise night raid, so she didn't know who had wanted her dead. You know what? I still don't know who has been sending those assassins after Tigre or Mira.

Ganelon appears to be some kind of wizard, using magic to either predict the future or spy on others' actions. His whole deal with moving against the King and Alsace was trying to get as far as he could before Thenardier had new dragons ready. Because Tigre went down South to stop the Muozinel invasion instead of Thenardier, his plans went to pot, and he burned his whole capital city down instead of meeting Thenardier and his dragons. That guy doesn't care about his citizens at all!

One War Maiden has been feeling a little antsy in her pantsy hearing about this red haired dude gathering other War Maidens to his harem. Valentina quickly discovers how all this happened.

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 10

Tigre's imaginative tactics almost work against Barbarossa's superior numbers, but the timely reinforcements of three knightly orders and his noble allies force the enemy's retreat.

Heh.

Man tears almost flowed this episode. We didn't see Tigre's because he was trying to hide them from Mira. How would you feel if one of your childhood heroes who served with your respected father came to your rescue and pronounced you a righteous man worthy to be called his father's son? Yeah. FEELS!

I almost had man tears fall when Tigre apologized to Elen for the deaths of her soldiers. That's king level compassion. The whole point of Tigre opposing the slaver invasion is king level compassion. Rally the nobles and knightly orders to repel an invasion and protect the citizens. Who's supposed to do that in Brune again? Oh yeah, the King.

Red Beard spent the whole battle keeping out of Tigre's bow range. That's military respect. He didn't have to embellish much when he sent his envoy with terms of withdrawal.

With hostilities ended, we had some time to spend on Vanadis harem hijinks.

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 9

With Elen dealing with Elizaveta on behalf of Sasha, Tigre enlists the aid of Mira against the incoming invasion force of the Pirate Barbarossa.

Heh.

We get it. Sasha was supposed to be the strongest of the War Maidens, enough so that even Mira and Elen didn't want to be scolded by her. Does this mean Sofy is now the strongest?

Mira still didn't say why she was down there on the southern border, even after all the negotiations for helping Tigre oppose Barbarossa.

They didn't talk about it, so we don't know why Sasha is bedridden. Apparently her fire-based dragon gear daggers hope she'll get better.

Elizaveta drew Elen away from Tigre, under a pretty weak pretense, but I guess the forces of Ganelon or Thenardier who asked her to do so weren't counting on a random expedition by Mira to replace Elen.

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 8

Elen has to leave Tigre to help another War Maiden. Tigre takes his army to stop intrusions by slavers on the southern border.

Heh.

This was an episode that had hardly anything to do with the title of the show. No possessed bow twang, the Vanadis left, and we only had the Count making the best he could of 1700 cavalry and infantry against 20,000 invaders. It wasn't Madan no Ou to Vanadis; it was just Ou.

Okay, so Ludmila shows up at the end, but she still didn't do anything yet.

I think Rurick's lack of hair is getting to him. He's getting a little catty when he talks about the other ikemen, like Gerald. Gerald seems a little rough with those below his station, but when he sees how Tigre talks with those he saved from slavery, it's clear that Rurick isn't the only retainer growing fond of the young Count. Leadership, compassion, following a just cause, and entrusted with the sacred weapon Durandal by Roland, these gifts bestowed on Tigre are helping birth a legend, never mind a mere a champion for his little backwater province.

One girl Tigre saved had some awfully nice shoes underneath her cloak. I have a feeling this person will be more than just a captured villager.

Geh.

Okay, so the Elen, Lim and Sophy left us early on in the episode, turning the rest of the show into the Tigre badass show. But at least they apologized to the viewers by giving us some delicious views before they exited.

10 Second Anime - Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 7

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 7

10 Second Anime - Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 7 photo 10SecondAnime-MadannoOutoVanadis-Episode7_zpsf0544b0a.gif

Elen and Sofy lead Tigre's troops as he recovers from Roland's wound. Tigre rejoins the battlefield with a newfound power and defeats Roland.

Heh.

Lots of action this week as the War Maidens team up to hold Roland back.

Interesting that Roland's sword Durandal is powerful enough to cut through the dragon magic based attacks of the Vanadis weapons.

Hoh, looks like Sofy has joined the Tigre harem. Elen doesn't like the idea of new competition.

The hero's quest to gain a powerful gift is one that is told in many cultures with many names. Here, we have a vision granted to Tigre and Titta, which is odd that she's included, but is explained since the goddess, or whoever, in the Black Bow needed a vessel to possess.

I'm unclear on this new green power that Tigre can use now. Did Tir na Fa grant the power to Tigre before he shot at Titta to see what he would do with it? Or did he have it already, and the goddess made it more powerful? Whatever the case, Durandal could not cut through it because of Roland's doubt over his actions being honorable or not.

Good thing it rained, or those cavalry tactics of slowly shredding a slower military unit would have worked.

Thenardier and Ganelon are working together to rid the kingdom of Tigre. That seems odd since I would think they would keep the conflict going as long as possible to take advantage of the chaos to strengthen their positions against each other. There's obviously more going on between those two.

Roland shouldn't feel too bad about getting defeated by Tigre. He did just take a direct hit from Elen's wind attack and some soul magic attack from Sofy.

10 Second Anime - Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 6

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 6

 photo 10SecondAnime-MadannoOutoVanadis-Episode6_zpsa6e1411a.gif

Tigre convinces Ludmila to remain neutral, but after the King of Brune declares him a traitor, he must face Roland and his order of knights.

Heh.

Say it, Lim! Say it! Silver Meteor Swarm! Say it! Even Titta can say it!

We've actually got more Japanese puns in ryuuseigun (悊悅恆恛恄恐悓), because gun is a homophone for army, and ryuusei is a homophone for prosperity. Maybe this is why Lim is embarrassed to say the name, because it also sounds like the Army of Silver Prosperity, like they're a mercenary gang. Which, of course, they are in the eyes of their own country Zhcted. Also, ryuu is a homophone for dragon, which fits with Elen's weapon. This makes it seem like Elen is choosing a name like she's a chuunibyou sufferer, which is another source of embarrassment for Lim.

That assassin was going straight for Ludmila. Was she the target in their first encounter where Lim got bit by a snake? We saw that Thenardier was the one who hired that group, so was he making sure that Zhcted would be drawn into a greater conflict if a War Maiden was killed at the hands of another in the employ of a Brunish lord? Medieval intrigue, I like it.

Tigre saved Ludmila's life, so guess what that means.

10 Second Anime - Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 5

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 5

 photo 10SecondAnime-MadannoOutoVanadis-Episode5_zps266187a8.gif

Tigre's and Elen's forces attack Ludmila's army as Thenardier attempts to contain Alsace's movement. A well-placed citadel becomes the key to victory.

Heh.

Even though Ludmila and Elen may be friendly rivals, that doesn't stop them from going all out on the battlefield.

Aw, I thought Lim was going to have a more comic reaction to Tigre fondling her as he sucked the snake's poison out of her, but I guess she's just grateful.

If you've been watching the little webisodes each week for this show, then you would know that Lim loves, loves, LOVES teddy bears. This explains the blushing when she stuck that bear cloak on Tigre, and pronounced his look "good."

10 Second Anime - Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 4

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 4

As Tigre takes stock of his recovered land, Elen's king reminds her of her priorities to national interests. Lim is a casualty in an attempted assassination on Tigre.

Heh.

These Vanadis girls don't seem very mature, at least in how Elen and Ludmila act childishly with each other. They even have a big sister type in Sofy to keep the peace.

I guess it's a big deal for the Zhcted king to receive a War Maiden. Two others were in attendance, but we didn't get their names.

Saying you invaded another country because you like a boy isn't a good enough reason? Real invasions in our own history have been done for less.

I'm not clear on what the first battle between Brune and Zhcted was all about, but wasn't the ransom on Tigre more than what all of Alsace was worth? It seems like Elen keeping Tigre and getting his land as they slowly pay off the ransom would be reasonable terms.

Meeting more of these War Maidens means there's more to ogle, er, more girls for Tigre to add to his harem.

10 Second Anime - Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 3

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 3

Zion's numerically superior forces are routed by superior tactics, subterfuge, and a couple of people who can kill dragons with one shot.

Heh.

Why do overpowering wind attacks always come down to Rasengan?

Hey, armored eyes! These tank dragons really are bred for battle. I'm sure they navigate mostly by smell anyway.

Zion didn't do anything wrong with his tactics, but he just wasn't that creative to deal with unexpected losses or developments. Besides, he had no idea he was going to lose one dragon much less both of them with his life.

Seeing Elen in action was great and all, but I wanted to see more of Lim. We've already seen Elen riding around in the first episode, but I'm getting a bit bored with Lim just staring and nodding once in acknowledgement.

Glowing bow with dragon eyes that talks. Now we know what the possessed or demonic bow twang refers to.

Elen's forces don't need to be very big if she provides an air shield against arrows.

A lance? Tigre don't need no stinking lance in a jousting duel. His arrows have greater reach anyway.

Nice idea of the chess pieces to explain what was going on in the battle, but too bad the CGI looked a little rushed.

Hmm.

I hope this show doesn't turn into an Infinite Stratos type thing where these Dragon Gear items are only supposed to be handled by women but this bow has chosen a man for the first time. That's assuming this possessed bow is a Dragon Gear.

Elen's sword Arifar (sounds like Aladdin's invocation of wind-based magic from Magi) appears to have an affinity toward Tigre and now his bow. I wonder if the other Vanadis weapons we see will also have some affinity toward Tigre.

There's going to be some geopolitical fallout after this battle. The kingdom of Zhcted has effectively annexed a territory of Brune, and the heir to one of its powerful lords is dead at the hand of the former Earl of Alsace.

We need some downtime to take in all these ramifications. Hopefully, this means more talking with Lim while Tigre and Elen try to figure out what is up with his bow. Maybe she'll do more than nod her head or grunt in frustration at all the blatant flirting going on.

10 Second Anime - Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 2

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 2

 photo 10SecondAnime-MadannoOutoVanadis-Episode2_zps3b4a9e77.gif

Thenardier's forces invade Alsace as a power play against a weakened king. Elen agrees to lend Tigre troops in exchange for his land. Tigre takes up his ancestor's black blow.

Heh.

No fair making Tigre worry so much about protecting his land. Tigre may be rational on the battlefield when it's someone else's reasons at stake, but his passion for his state overwhelmed his military mind. Elen and Lim lost their bet to each other, though. No archery contest, and no making Tigre one of Elen's retainers. I wonder what the stakes of their bet was...

The Church is pretty powerful in this story. Nobody wants to get on their bad side.

This black bow doesn't look that gaudy to me. Is there some other reason Tigre doesn't want to use it? Maybe this is where the demonic bow twang in the title comes from.

Tigre's hair is always wind-tousled and cannot be tamed!

10 Second Anime - Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 1

Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 1

10 Second Anime - Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 1 photo 10SecondAnime-MadannoOutoVanadis-Episode1_zpsd3022042.gif

Official Translation: Lord Marksman and Vanadis (literally: The Count of the Magic Bow Twang and the War Maiden) tells the story of a young count known for his amazing archery skills taken captive by one of the seven Vanadis, or War Maidens. War, Intrigue, and powerful, sexy young women are this show's major themes.

Heh.

Sticking Madan (魔弾) into a machine translator gives you "magic bullet," but you know that can't be right since we have an archer as the main character. The dan (弾) here doesn't mean the physical projectile, but the shooting of the projectile. It also means twang, flip, snap. Ma (魔) means "demon, witch, evil spirit," so it's more like the Duke, Earl, Count, whatever has a possessed bow twang. All this is pretty hard to translate the meaning into a title of a show.

In what looks like a main character eventually recruiting beautiful magical warriors into his harem, we start with the Best Girl in Eleonora. She captured him on the battlefield because she fell in love with his bow skills and his fighting spirit. But not him. Sure, we'll see about that. Eleonora's lieutenant, Limalisha, is already wary about how easily he's, ah, affected by Eleonora's womanly charms.
