Vintage and the Loose Souls Team square off as Katsuragi tries to awaken the goddess in Ayumi. Chihiro looks on and offers advice. Mercurius awakens, the goddesses use their power to destroy the monster souls Vintage was creating. The live concert at the school festival ends the arc.

It's too bad the anime did not have time to have some funny scenes with the awakened Mercury, because it looks like she would have been the sleepy, slow talking straight man to Katsuragi's outrageous reactions. I also took note that the usual rush of emotions that awakens a goddess happens during a kiss, but with Ayumi, it happened after the kiss, while looking into Katsuragi's eyes. Just a further exclamation point on what she wanted him to know before the "conquest" would become complete - she chose to fall in love with Katsuragi. Like a regular girl. Like Chihiro did.

Chihiro's band played the song she wrote, and it was a fitting title for this show: The Memory of My First Love. During the song, we had a nice montage of all the girls Katsuragi has conquered over the past few seasons, knowing they don't have memories of their first loves. The girls with goddesses in them remember, and the only one who fell in love with Katsuragi for real, Chihiro. Aww.

Overall, a fun season with the right amount of laughs and schmaltz. I appreciated that each of the girls had different storytelling direction to fit their personalities. By far the funniest, and most adorable, was the chapter with the librarian girl, Shiori. There seemed to be too much story for only 12 episodes, but not enough for 24, since this show isn't really a battle manga. Only Negima could pull that off, but also failed in its anime adaptations. Still, the scenes they showed were enough to tell the story, and it was still entertaining. The story in other media continues, so you'd better keep practicing Katsuragi. These girls are going to start chasing you pretty soon.

Is Chihiro helping or hurting this Ayumu capture mission? Pantsu juggling. Fire truck sighting. I'm on a horse. Outrageous marriage proposal.

Even with Vintage agents flying around, and Haqua and Nora in protection mode, the kids don't really seem to be feeling a sense of urgency. Classic rom-com gags abound: catching someone in the bath, accidentally grabbing panties, getting slapped, riding a white horse... dueling marriage proposals... Okay, those last two are kind of out there.

Even with Katsuragi saying the words Ayumi wants to hear, she still doesn't believe it, so it seems he should do what I suggested last week, tell the truth about the whole Goddess plot, so even Mercury believes his words. Oh well, big resolution next week. Should be fun!

Ayumi kicks. Katsuragi makes coffee. Vintage strikes. Haqua strikes back with help of the Loose Souls commander.

Katsuragi makes a mean cup of coffee, which he says should surprise no one, since his family owns a little café. Ayumi and Chihiro still struggle with all the mixed up feelings, but I think Katsuragi should have an easier time waking up the goddess Mercury in Ayumi since they are already aware of each other. Much like the situation with Tenri and Diana. Just explain the situation already. But Katsuragi doesn't know their relationship, so he's gotta do what he's gotta do.

Meanwhile, Vintage strikes and tries to capture all the goddesses, but they have some gaps in their intelligence. Since they don't know in whom the goddesses are hiding, they just capture all the girls that Katsuragi has captured with a loose soul. Tenri and Diana are left out of the target list because the loose soul in Tenri was technically captured by Nora.

While these attacks are happening, the Loose Souls commander is smuggling Haqua out of prison. The commander specifically charged Haqua with treason to protect her from Vintage, and reminds her that she is the most skillful retriever the academy ever graduated.

Vintage has captured four goddesses, and Katsuragi insists on gaining Mercury before they confront them and seal off the loose souls they've been growing. He thinks there's still a way to prevent a war from breaking out.

Aw, poor Chihiro, to fall in love with a heartbreaker like Katsuragi. Ayumi is next on the list. And now we know where Vintage's plot is headquartered.

Katsuragi is like a dog chasing a car: he has no idea what to do with girls after he catches them. In a dating game, you win, you kiss, you get a nice little epilogue, and then you start the next game. Real life and real love is not like that, obviously. Being part of the loose souls retrieval team for New Hell was perfect for his skills as the God of Conquering video game girls, since capturing the loose soul inside a host made that person forget everything after the possession. The deal with the goddesses is that they were already "inside" the girls with loose souls, so they remember falling in love with Katsuragi.

In Chihiro's case, it just seems inconceivable to Katsuragi that a normal girl would start to like an unsociable nerd like he is. But, love is not rational, and Katsuragi is not irredeemable with how he treats Elsie as seen from her school band mates. But yeesh, Katsuragi let down Chihiro harshly, even too harsh for him. It can't be helped though, because he's got a mission and a deadline. Things are more complicated because Ayumi watched her best friend's heart get stomped. Maybe it won't be that difficult, since Mercurius already seems to be awakened, but the power of love needs to bring out the goddess's full power. Hmm.

That is Diana's problem with Tenri. Her power was never fully awakened, and she doesn't have the wings that her sisters do. Things need to get rushed.

And speaking of rushed, I like how the producers bolted on to the back of this episode how Katsuragi found the lair of Vintage's evil plot to use these evil loose souls. Ooh, plot progression.

The awakened goddesses gather to consult the sleeping Apollo, but she's busy trying to redirect misfortune away from Katsuragi's town. Haqua gets caught up in the Vintage conspiracy, and Katsuragi gambles on Chihiro having the last goddess in her.

All the subplots are beginning to converge into the main plot of Vintage restarting the war between Heaven and New Hell. Diana, one of the goddesses, senses danger beginning to build, and assembles the previously awakened goddesses to use their power to awaken the sleeping Apollo to perform a divination. She has already been cured of the Vintage poison, but has been sleeping under a protective water spell since then, and Katsuragi finds out she has been using her current power to change the flow of misfortune building within the town. This misfortune must be related to the plans of Vintage, who seems to have some highly placed agents to imprison Haqua for merely mentioning their name.

Meanwhile, Katsuragi accelerates his plans to awaken the last goddess Mercury, who is either in Chihiro or Ayumi. He gambles on Chihiro first, and asks her to the bonfire after the school festival.

Katsuragi, you dog. Trying to capture two girls with the sick visit gambit at the same time? Only the god of galge capturing could pull this off. But real-life girls actually talk to each other...

Elsie is still impersonating the pop idol Kanon, but even so, she still needs to play with toy firetrucks. Unfortunately, Katsuragi got a cold from wearing all those skirts the last few days, but since he's on a tight schedule, he has no choice but to keep trying to capture girls' hearts and awaken the goddesses from his sick bed. He targets Ayumi, but was not expecting Chihiro to come by too. And Nora's Buddy is absolutely no help, since he was just there to spy on Katsuragi anyway to find out what he knew about the insurgent demon group Vintage. So now Chihiro and Ayumi both know the other has feelings for Katsuragi, which is strange, since there should be only one goddess left in one or the other. Very interesting.

Katsuragi motivates shy librarian Shiori to write her first novel, and awakens the Goddess Minerva.

Shy Shiori is shy. The best part of this episode was when Shiori tried to call out to Katsuragi in the big empty library, and what came out was the forced cry of a steaming teapot. "Katsuragi-kuuun!" Sigh~. Also, Shiori has textbook shy girl blush faces, which seems to be a nice personality match for the Goddess Minerva hiding inside her.
