Madan no Ou to Vanadis - Episode 7
Elen and Sofy lead Tigre's troops as he recovers from Roland's wound. Tigre rejoins the battlefield with a newfound power and defeats Roland.
Heh.
Lots of action this week as the War Maidens team up to hold Roland back.Interesting that Roland's sword Durandal is powerful enough to cut through the dragon magic based attacks of the Vanadis weapons.
Hoh, looks like Sofy has joined the Tigre harem. Elen doesn't like the idea of new competition.
The hero's quest to gain a powerful gift is one that is told in many cultures with many names. Here, we have a vision granted to Tigre and Titta, which is odd that she's included, but is explained since the goddess, or whoever, in the Black Bow needed a vessel to possess.
I'm unclear on this new green power that Tigre can use now. Did Tir na Fa grant the power to Tigre before he shot at Titta to see what he would do with it? Or did he have it already, and the goddess made it more powerful? Whatever the case, Durandal could not cut through it because of Roland's doubt over his actions being honorable or not.
Good thing it rained, or those cavalry tactics of slowly shredding a slower military unit would have worked.
Thenardier and Ganelon are working together to rid the kingdom of Tigre. That seems odd since I would think they would keep the conflict going as long as possible to take advantage of the chaos to strengthen their positions against each other. There's obviously more going on between those two.
Roland shouldn't feel too bad about getting defeated by Tigre. He did just take a direct hit from Elen's wind attack and some soul magic attack from Sofy.
Hmm.
We finally found out what's been going on with the king. He's been driven mad by grief over the death of the prince, and has been playing with wooden blocks in his room since that battle where Elen took Tigre prisoner. The prime minister still has some loyalty to the old guard, but feels the political pressure to follow the orders of Thenardier and Ganelon. We know that Thenardier is biding his time to get more dragons ready, and that he has a personal grudge against Tigre because he killed his son, but we haven't seen anything explicit about Ganelon's motivations. We know he vies for the throne against his chief rival Thenardier, and is paying close attention for any openings he can find. So far, Thenardier has been playing pretty good defense against both Ganelon and the growing faction under Tigre.
I'm beginning to think the assassins are under the employ of Ganelon too. The use of assassins was suggested to Thenardier, but that doesn't mean he actually used them. Their targets so far have been Ludmila and Tigre's friend Mashas. Ludmila was an ally of Thenardier and Mashas had just found out about the king's infirmity. Both assassinations would have helped Ganelon's position. Or, there could be several assassin employers, further muddying the waters. Medieval intrigue, I love it.
Roland has tacitly accepted Tigre's mission as honorable, and if the most renowned royal order of knights doesn't think Tigre is a traitor, the other knightly orders probably won't either. Tigre has gained another War Maiden ally and neutralized the knights, so that Thenardier's and Ganelon's fake orders can't be listened to anymore. This frees up Tigre to take the fight to Thenardier's lands directly.
Will we see more dragons? Will Elizabeta, the other War Maiden with ties to Thenardier, show up too? Is another spot in Tigre's harem opening up? Titta and Elen aren't going to like that.
