10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 11
Hayato's reluctance to announce his studies track exposes Yumiko's hurt feelings.
Heh.
Rumors had always flown around who Hayato was or wasn't dating, so I'm not sure why the recent one pairing him with Yukino captured the school's imagination when he was hanging out with Haruno, Hachiman and Yui too. Seems like a convenient plot development to me.
This episode was like a throwback to the first season when Hachiman pulled some sneaky athletic tricks to make a point. Here, he finally took advantage of Saika's offers to help by asking him to use the tennis team to create a gap for him and Hayato.
Yukino wasted no time in using her birthday presents.
The opening credits had Iroha show up again. And Hachiman's cup is there at their little tea station.
Hayato said several times that he doesn't want to lose to Hachiman, but I don't think he was talking about that marathon.
He also said at the end that not making choices is the best way of doing things. That might work for a younger person, but eventually you'll just find yourself in the circumstances life dealt you. Perhaps his reference to a choice that's not really a choice makes his statement merely a reaction to something he doesn't like.
Iroha demonstrates to Yui and Yukino how to ask a guy out without asking him out.

10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 10
Hachiman's and Yukino's two-pronged attack spur the Christmas Event committee to action. Yukino has family issues related to her birthday during New Year's.
Heh.
This episode had to deal with the aftermath of Iroha's confession to Hayato. I liked the use of Iroha's tendency to rely on Hachiman to carry things that are too heavy for her as an invitation to console her in his own way. Iroha had her own confession to give to Hachiman, though.
It was one thing to hear Hachiman complain about buzzword bingo to himself, but to push it in people's faces out in the open, especially in a culture that hates confrontation, took courage. Iroha relied on the support of the Hachiman and Yukino, but she still made her school's preference known and stood up to the other school. Yukino stood the issue on its head by asking them to stop wasting their time by playing upper management pretend games. They don't have to get along - they just have to put on a Christmas show.

10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 9
Yui and Yukino see firsthand the problems with the Christmas Event committee. Their group of friends go to a Christmas themed amusement park for ideas.
Heh.
After all the tension from the past few episodes, it was a welcome change for some light-hearted rapprochement between our main characters. Yukino talked to Hachiman in the club room first, which was a big deal. And then Yui just had to sit closer to Yukino. Much closer.
The real fallout had to be dealt with internally by Hachiman, though. He totally embarrassed himself in front of two girls. Worse, it from an actual attempt at intimacy, instead of the cynical trick he played with Hina. That's not the cool, detached Hachiman we've come to know. Identity crisis, right?
Uh, no. Komachi called her big brother out on that crap. What kind of weak identity do you have if it's able to be cracked so easily? The shame you feel is from your actual identity. Komachi tried to out-Hachiman Hachiman. Good try, but Komachi had to score some real points with torture.

10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 8
Shizuka-sensei offers Hachiman the outside perspective he needs. Hachiman opens up to Yui and Yukino.
Heh.
Shizuka-sensei is best sensei. I mean, she drives an Aston Martin...
Is it really deus ex machina if it's an established character that drops by in her awesome car to pick up the hero so he can receive divine wisdom in a remote location? I guess an Aston Martin is like a winged chariot. It was driven by a goddess. An unmarried goddess who smokes and drinks...
Hachiman is a lady-killer. He just doesn't know it yet.
10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 7
Hachiman sees no improvement in the planning of the Christmas Event as the deadline draws closer. The awkwardness inside the Service Club continues to grow.
Heh.
In terms of plot, not much really happened this week. Iroha is taking her time getting to the meetings because she walks so slowly to them since she hates going to them. Who can blame her, really?
Hachiman's relationship with his sister is a pure microcosm of the kind of friendship he wishes he could have with other people. Just the freedom to be himself, be a little selfish, and have fun acknowledging those idiosyncrasies of his personality. Right now, he's still operating under the notion of leaving as little a footprint as possible with those he's starting to care about.
Iroha found out something good about Hikigaya-senpai! His former crush was attending those meetings too.
Aw, Hachiman likes little girls because they remind him of his sister. Iroha did her usual dance of denying a love confession, even though she likes older guys. She looked disappointed that Hachiman didn't rise to the bait.
More characters from the first season showed up with little Rumi from the summer camp thing where Hachiman blew up her little circle of friends. This was a nice way for Hachiman to see that his methods really don't work as long term solutions since Rumi may not be picked on anymore, but she hasn't made any new friends from her school either.
Hachiman appears to have hit rock bottom at the end of the episode. Trying to take responsibility for Iroha's presidency isn't really helping and then Yukinoshita told him he didn't even have to show up to their club time anymore. The whole point of helping Iroha on his own was not to burden the Service Club with a situation he created and then he was threatened with being sent away from something he was trying to protect. Hachiman needs to find a different way, but it obviously isn't going to come from within himself. Who will help him?

10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 6
The awkwardness in the Service Club keeps growing. Hachiman takes on President Iroha's request by himself.
Heh.
Before we got to the next problem to be solved, we saw many things showing the new awkwardness after the election - Hachiman staring at the cool kids to figure out how they kept the awkwardness away after a failed confession and some behind-the-back badmouthing, Yukino not even bothering to make tea for their club and Yui doing her darnedest to put on a brave face. Hachiman may have saved the Service Club by making Iroha run unopposed, but the relationships fractured anyway.
Iroha is in way over her head with this community event. It looks like a replay of the cultural festival, with the buzzword bingo school aiming to take credit for success and lay blame for disaster at Iroha's feet.
Hachiman should have let the whole club help out. I would have loved to see Yukino destroy those middle management graspers.
Iroha is ready for the hidden genius to work his magic.

10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 5
Taking on a job from his sister to save the Service Club, Hachiman "solves" Iroha's election problem.
Heh.
Komachi is best imouto.
She also knew that whatever her brother did during the school trip was part of the background emotional response from the other girls in the Service Club. The two siblings reconciled over his guilty snappishness from before.
Komachi and Hachiman have had years to perfect their banter. Theirs is pretty much the only normal relationship he has in the show right now.

10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 4
Hachiman is forced to go on a double date with Hayama. Yukino decides to run for student council president. Yui declares her own course of action.
Heh.
Yukino's older sister Haruno can't really be bored enough to follow a bunch of kids around on a double date, can she? No, of course not. She's scheming to make Yukino run for student council president.
In the flashback, Hayama claimed that the girl he liked had a "Y" in her name. By all appearances, he's spending most of his time with Yumiko, but he didn't say he liked Yumiko. He was purposefully vague about it. Could it be Yukino? Is it her sister Haruno Yukinoshita? It couldn't possibly be Yui, could it? With how deferential Hayama was to Haruno's requests, I'm leaning toward someone in the Yukinoshita family.
Speaking of Yumiko, she literally stumbled into Hayama and Hachiman's double date.

10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 3
The Service Club is asked to throw a school election while they still feel awkward about Hachiman's actions during the school trip.
Heh.
Yukino figured out part of what was bothering her about Hachiman's actions with the false confession last week - hypocrisy. Supposedly, Hachiman hates superficiality, especially in relationships, so what was the point of his preserving the shallow friendships within Hayama's clique.
Some popular girl got nominated to run for student council president without her knowledge and Hachiman goes straight to another sacrificial lamb solution. Yui and Yukino suspected that he would be the one to offer up a terrible endorsement speech to sabotage the reluctant candidate. It's one thing for a handful of people not to like him for sabotaging a love confession, but this would involve the entire school.
New opening credit scenes already? The song is still the same, but it looks like it's going to be a while before we see these smiling faces on Yui and Yukino.

10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 2
The Service Club finds a perfect spot for a love confession, but Hachiman makes sure things don't go exactly as planned.
Heh.
These cultural tourist places always seem to have a haunted house these days. Saki was not a fan, and neither was Hachiman because she was ruining his jacket by clinging on to him so tightly. She looks like a bad girl but is just a regular girl with a tough exterior.
Yukino's class seems to be very protective of their princess, especially from the infamous Hachiman.
That bamboo corridor was a great place to make a love confession, but all sorts of other confessions happened there too.
Yui and Yukino appear surprised that Hachiman can be a regular guy with a big appetite.

10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 1
Translated - My Teenage RomCom is SNAFU TOO! (lit. As expected, my teenage love comedy is all mixed up) The second season of the light novel anime adaptation. Hachiman continues plying his cynical solutions to his classmates' teenage problems while oblivious to his own love triangle involving cool beauty Yukino and normal cute girl Yui.
First Thoughts.
I don't need first thoughts. This is a well established comedy about a main character who affects a cynical aloof attitude based on his experiences in middle school just caring too damn much, but still actually cares too damn much and defuses the usual high school drama by making himself the target for animus. He doesn't fool the two girls who end up caring for him though, or even the most popular guy in his year.
It's still all here. The running commentary, the crazy characters, the mad blushing, and all the tension and awkwardness you would expect during those high school years. The only issue of concern was that the animation companies changed from the first season to this one, but since RomCom SNAFU is dialog heavy, what mattered was how the reactions and comedy beats would be handled. After watching the first episode, I have no worries.

Also, let me say on a personal note, I need to cover some talky funny stuff this season. I've been blogging heavy dramatic action oriented stuff for the last three seasons, which means it takes a lot of editing and hard decisions to boil stuff down to 10 seconds, so RomCom SNAFU is pretty relaxing for me. I'm looking forward to all the meaningful glances and Hachiman's internal monologue.
