The Chuunibyou movie was a pure recap of the first season, but it was framed as an Episode 0 for the 2nd season. It retold the basic plot points from the first season, brought us right to the circumstances of the first episode, and introduced the new character after the ending credits. It also gave us all the good funny stuff we remembered from the first season and expected to see in the second. Like all this stuff!

Ah, what a relaxing comedic episode for the season finale. No more sad tears, no more tension over loves lost, but back to young, inexperienced love. With all the meta talk over deepening contracts involving delusional magic over the past 9 episodes, we're back to good old fashioned girls talk in the public bath, and just plain Googling "Kiss Boy's Feelings." We have a bit of concern over Chimera, who seems to be wanting to stay in one spot. She's looking awfully plump, maybe they've been feeding her too much?

School has started up again after the long summer break, and we have some more first day of school jokes with Shinka trying on a new persona, which also doesn't last long, and the usual with not recognizing Isshiki. Isshiki got way tan working at that water park. He also picked up a love interest! But he's too loyal to Kumin. Besides, I don't think these two are compatible.

Mori Summer comes to Sophia's rescue. The entire season was a treasure hunt for Rikka. Something new arrives, while something old says farewell.

Shinka is best girl! Really, she's such a good friend who cares so much about others, especially her little band of chuunibyou sufferers. Maybe she really is 1200 years old... she's just as nosy as the neighborhood granny. She doesn't buy any of Shichimiya's stories that she's been recharging her Sophia power, and even goes so far as to make an appearance as Mori Summer, middle school uniform and all, to pray for Sophia and give her some advice about struggling with her other self, much to the jealousy of Dekomori, though.

As for Rikka making herself sick while rooting around power poles in the rain, we finally find out that everything she's been doing since the first episode was to find the 3 tokens, which were the key to unlocking the location of the Dark Flame Dragon. Yuuta had written an elaborate treasure map for the locations of the tokens. In the meantime, Rikka had been planting those supermarket crystals in a huge alchemical pattern at the base of power poles all around the city, plus marking where she had already looked, and she was beginning to panic because she hadn't found the last token before the all important night of the blue moon. The night-vision goggles and the metal-detector wand were all for this plan to unseal the Dark Flame Dragon, and prove that she holds the last and eternal contract with Yuuta. That's how her deepening love was manifesting itself, anyway.

She could have just asked Yuuta where the sealed dragon was. He didn't need a clue from the combined tokens to remember where he hid a black stone, under a causeway bridge, which was meant to be the heart of the black dragon. Letting Sophia defeat the summoned dragon was a neat way of exorcising her own feelings, not that things like real feelings can be defeated that way. She can't help but be affected by how much Yuuta cares for Rikka.

What a nice payoff to tie everything together for the whole season. That Dark Flame Master was kind of cool, in his own way, to affect events like this many years later. Looking ahead to the next episode, Shichimiya's time with our regulars might be coming to an end, with the way she says "bye bye." Bye bye indeed, since this season is almost over.

Sophia loses her powers as her love for Yuuta comes back. The other girls notice, and maybe Yuuta too.

It's the dog days of summer, and Shichimiya can't fall asleep. Not because of the heat, but because of her own feelings for Yuuta. As with Rikka forgetting to put her eyepatch on when she was having trouble fusing her delusions with her feelings for Yuuta, Sophia's heart sticker on her cheek has trouble staying on. She can't continue being the Magical Devil Girl forever.

Touka notices her awkwardness with Yuuta at the local water park, and asks the other girls about her. Such a protective older sister. Ciento thinks that's boring old people stuff, though.

The beach episode! The Priestess makes a surprise visit. Rikka achieves a new form. Is Sophia not so eternal after all?

With Kumin's aunt asking for help to run her beach food shack, we have all the pretense we need for beach episode. We have a couple of surprises, though. First, Shichimiya strikes a dynamic entry pose. It turns out Rikka asked her to come help, and to get some advice on her weakening power. We had an inkling something was wrong when Rikka couldn't summon a fantasy world to help Shinka practice her battle against Real Fake Mori Summer. Now we know for sure. Oh, before we get to the second surprise, Kumin introduces her friends to her aunt.

The Real Fake Mori Summer appears, and she tries to steal Dekomori away from the Fake Real Mori Summer! Who will Dekomori choose?

Yes Kumin, they had a good time on their trip, but Rikka wants you to ask her something. Go on, ask her!

The Real Fake Mori Summer makes her appearance, and it is indeed the stalker we saw in the earlier episodes, but she wasn't stalking Shinka. She was stalking Dekomori! She's the one who planted that note with the website address in Dekomori's bag. The other Far Eastern Magical Nap Society of Summer members want to see who this impostor is, and, sure enough, they see she has impure motivations towards Dekomori.

Yuuta's and Rikka's exclusive free time gets interrupted by a Shichimiya in distress. Dekomori discovers the Mori Summer website. Isshiki photobombs.

Yuuta's and Rikka's alone time is going great, and they even make plans to take the romantic ferry ride across to the volcano. Unfortunately for them, Shichimiya's school is also visiting Tsukishino Island in Kyuushuu, and she's lost her purse. Rikka knows how to help her out and quickly get back to their own plans.

School trip means couple time, bored friends left behind, night raids getting thwarted, girl talk, boy talk, and stolen kisses. Kyaa! Rikka! So Bold!

We knew those night vision goggles would be featured again. It's the school trip to Kyuushuu, and that means the established couples get to sit next to each on the long rides, and get some good-natured ribbing from their classmates. Rikka is still very embarrassed by people acknowledging that she and Yuuta are actually dating. Also, we get more Isshiki time, but not in a good way for him. Wearing hats doesn't solve his popularity problem, and wearing a towel on his head like a Japanese thief will not convince the teachers you just entered the wrong part of the hotel by mistake.

The chuunibyou's club needs an official event to keep their certification. Competitive napping is a thing? Good enough to save the club!

With the elections over, the new student council has to recertify the clubs, and they need to make sure all the, ahem, "cultural" clubs actually do what their descriptions say. The Far Eastern Magic Nap Society of Summer might have a little problem, since they don't actually do anything. The Secretary is willing to let the half-read statement of purpose slide, but the student council asks their faculty advisor what they actually do. She doesn't really know... and if she can't give a report on what they do, they'll have to give up their space. Thankfully, Kumin actually does the napping that's in the name, and knows about napping competitions known as Siesta Tournaments. It's a thing! They arrange to meet a local Siesta chapter to get a practice match, which will count as an official activity.

The local napping association president, Sui Nemuri, heh (her name is a pun on sleeping), is not impressed with only one member doing the napping, and doesn't want to have a match just for fun. Kumin wants to save the club, and everyone passes it off to each other to prove the depth of their napping passion, until Rikka agrees to a death-match to prove their worth. If they lose, they'll disband their club! Reckless Rikka! Nemuri agrees, and we then have nap training vignettes. A good napper must be able to sleep in any kind of environment, to let distractions pass right through them, even a napping Isshiki trying to get Kumin's attention. Nice try Isshiki...

They don't think the training is working fast enough, so Yuuta comes up with a brilliant plan: Stay up all night before the match. Who knew Dekomori was so good at card games and videogames? Shichimiya has to crash the party, of course, showing off how close she and Yuuta used to be.

Shinka runs for Student Body President, but needs the Dark Flame Master's help in distracting Dekomori. But Dekomori finds out she is the real Mori Summer, and wants to elect her queen.

Even though the sophisticated young lady image didn't work out for Shinka, she hasn't stopped trying to reinvent herself. With student body elections coming up, she sees this as the perfect chance to gain a more important new image. Unfortunately, there's this little blonde twin-tailed girl running around attacking her, and she can't have that happen while she's campaigning. Shinka asks for Yuuta's help in keeping Dekomori away from her, but he's reluctant, since he doesn't really see why he should be the one to help her. Welp, there's always blackmail. Hey Yuuta, do you want other people to see all these things you wrote?

The girl from the Dark Flame Master's past makes her entrance! Does an old flame become a rival? And Mahou Shoujou Yuuta? He better keep that Dark Flame Dragon sealed up...

Revealed: Satone Shichimiya, the new girl living upstairs, is the former 8th-grader syndrome partner of Yuuta. In fact, she was the source of his own syndrome, and they had many adventures together. But then he moved away.

Rikka spies her first, which brings on a renewed spark of chuunibyou symptoms, and she tries to get Yuuta to play along with her new mission: to unleash the Dark Flame Dragon, the ultimate source of the Dark Flame Master's powers. In reality, seeing this other girl makes her want to spend more time with Yuuta, and this is how it manifests. They make a bet first though: if Rikka gets a higher score on their next test, he'll wear this marked up T-shirt; if Yuuta wins, the Dark Flame Dragon stays sealed forever. Well, Rikka beat him, and she upped the stakes: using a magical girl outfit to unseal the Dragon power during the transformation scene. Rikka used her keen wicked eye to take Yuuta's measurements:

Dating for 6 months, shacking up, and Shinka wants to see some scandalous action between Rikka and Yuuta. If there's no juicy bits, it's time to make some! And we meet the Ren in the title.

Shinka may be nosy, but she's also fiercely loyal to her friends and cares about them. And with no hint of lovey-dovey smoochy-smoochy between Rikka and Yuuta, she feels she has to help their relationship along. Dekomori doesn't want to hear about this stuff, though. She may have pledged her fealty to the Dark Flame Master because of his contract to her mistress, but she doesn't have to like it.

Of course, how normal a romantic relationship can one have between a chuunibyou and a recovering one? Yuuta is acting more like the parent these days, even disciplining Rikka for blowing her allowance on night vision goggles. That's a bad Evil Lord Death Eye!

The Dark Flame Master still has his hands full dealing with Rikka and her "powers." The rest of the crew are back too, though with expected and unexpected changes. Ahoge jokes still abound.

It's the second season of Chuunibyou, and our cast of characters are entering the next year of school as well. First off, chuunibyou, translated as middle schooler syndrome, is the made-up condition where preteens believe they have the magical powers they see in anime and manga. Yuuta, our main character, is trying to forget those embarrassing days, but his girlfriend, Rikka, is still having fun. She even has a "minion" in Dekomori, who likes to tie her hair in twin-tails and use them as weapons. Dekomori developed her chuunibyou after reading the online journal of "Mori Summer," who happens to be the alter ego of former chuunibyou sufferer Shinka. Dekomori doesn't believe Shinka could possibly be the admirable Mori Summer though, and calls her Fake Mori Summer. Rounding out the cast are the normals, if you can call them that, Kumin the sleepy senior and Isshiki, Yuuta's friend.

Isshiki and Shinka want to make a major change for the new school year, and have radically changed their appearances. Isshiki now sports some dyed Dragonball hair, but he'll probably end up back to the crewcut he got when he shaved his head to prove his love for Kumin. Shinka is trying to go for the rich cultured girl look, but we'll see how long that lasts, especially since she still likes to use her rubberband sniping skills against her mortal foe Dekomori.

The drama for this episode is that Rikka has moved into Yuuta's apartment temporarily while looking for a new place, but her older sister Touka and the school haven't been notified. Then Touka, also known as The Priestess, finds out, and we have our first chuunibyou battle of the season. Hilariously, Touka, wielding her soup spoon, joins in with the nomenclature, calling one of her attacks the French cooking term for oven roasted. What I like about this show is it always shows what the real "battle" looks like, and it's just Touka slightly tapping Rikka on the head. Things get resolved when they all find out that Yuuta's younger sister is moving back into the apartment, so they have a chaperone while their parents and Touka work overseas.

The drama for the rest of the season is hinted at in the opening credits by the appearance of a new girl, presumably Yuuta's love interest during his Dark Flame Master days. In the show, someone has moved into Rikka's old apartment right above Yuuta's. I wonder who it is...
