Finds from the Grind - Cow on a hot tin roof

In Fallout 4, sometimes two headed cows from a caravan just find themselves on roofs after fast traveling. It must be because of how the game engine just drops things out of the sky. Not seen, crazy old lady in the attic because that's where her chair was built in the workshop interface.

Tour Tidbit du Jour - 7/9/2015

The route of Stage 6 passed through the Seine Maritime department in the Normandy region of France. The cliffs at Étratat are one of the prominent features of this area, famously portrayed in numerous paintings by Claude Monet.

Tour Tidbit du Jour - 7/6/2015

The Stage 2 route passed through the Dutch city of Gouda, world renowned for its cheeses. Aged from 4 weeks to over 12 months, the hard cheese pairs well with Dubbel, Tripel or Trappist ales.

Giro Jot del Giorno - 5/14/2015

Giro Jot del Giorno - 2015-5-14

When Alberto Contador's dislocated shoulder prevented him from wearing the pink jersey on the podium after his crash at the finish on stage 6, the tailor normally in charge of pressing the team logo on the presentation jerseys sprang into action to make sure he would be able to wear the official race jersey the next day.

[Claudio] Castellano, a jovial Napolitano normally in charge of pressing the correct sponsor logos onto leader’s jerseys bound for the podium ceremony, spent four hours Thursday evening ensuring that Contador would be able to easily slip in and out of the maglia rosa.

This is the Tour of Italy after all, where fashion leads ahead of function and form.

Hey, Kids! Take my "advize" and "chooze" to spell "looose" with three O's.

I'm sure you've seen it, maybe you've even done it yourself. Someone wrote on the internet that they were about to "loose" their mind. As if their brain was held in their head by a belt or only a closed spigot kept things from leaking out. Obviously, they meant "lose." Why does this happen so often? I posit that it's an over reliance on spell check.

Loose and lose can be spelled correctly, but in different contexts they mean very different things. My suggestion - just spell both of them with 3 O's "looose." Why would I suggest such a thing? Internet texting and social media posts reward creatively misspelling words as a way to convey enthusiasm, silliness, or just plain fun. I'm totally looosing my mind over this!

Even better, spellcheck is triggered no matter what device you're tapping that amazeballs comment into. Better yet, if you make this a habit, when you need to spell "lose" or "loose" correctly so as not to signify to the recipient that you're lazy, then the spellcheck trigger will force you to figure out the appropriate word you want to put in your email or text. "Loosing a client" sounds way dumber than "shaking lose some sales leads," but you shouldn't type either of them.

So, kids, just misspell "looose" with three O's no matter what and people will never think you're dumb and lazy. You're just a fun person!

Try this with "advize" too. The advise - advice thing is another word pair that doesn't trigger spellcheck. But if you spell both words "advize" all the time, you will have a "nizer" time. See what a fun guy I am!

"Chooze" is another fun spelling to show your neato wit. No one likes having others think you mixed up a past tense chose with choose because you're too lazy to correct the autosuggest on your phone. "Chooze" to be that wild and crazy text typist!

Sadly, I have no help to offer on "your dumb." That's all on you. Try harder, or just go the safe route with "ur dumb." You still look lazy, but at least you don't look dumb.

If you have other word pairs that need to be misspelled spectacularly, leave them in the comments below. I'll take your advize!

Updated - Blogger's New Content Policy

Update: I guess Google worried about the future Tumblr exodus of 2015, and decided to actually use their big googly searchy thing to, you know, find actual porn sites being run on Blogger. So, nothing changes here, and no worries about the dreaded review process (please, please Mr. Google, I only have man nipples on my site now!) Original post below.

Anime Questions Ice Bucket Challenge!

Okay, there is no ice bucket involved with these questions, but the tagging nature of The Inspector Green Tag reminded me of the ALS ice bucket challenge from last August. Yes, I got challenged, and icy wet too. But just like then, I'll invoke my curmudgeon card (complete with rake of doom) and tell you kids to get off my lawn. However, I will happily answer your questions from my driveway.

3D Latte Foam Art Hits the Mainstream

Now you can make cute latte foam kitties at home... if you're into that kind of thing.

Facebook bought Oculus Rift. So what now, for Virtual Reality?

What Games Are: Virtual Reality, We Hardly Knew You | TechCrunch

My quick reaction to Tadhg Kelly's piece is that Virtual Reality is a dog for all the reasons listed, but the one thing Facebook will probably get right in its basic research is the interface. As long as VR requires you to strap a monitor to your head, it will never be popular. Same with Google Glass. Same reason 3D TV's died another quick death. People don't want to wear stuff on their face if they don't have to.

Facebook is already doing original stuff with their server farms to optimize processing power, the product of their own research and development, so I figure they're looking at VR tech to further their push into mobile devices and Augmented Reality. There's only so much real estate for a smart phone to emulate buttons for a keyboard, and if the new displays of the future enhance depth perception, poking your finger through the images won't be optimal. I see this as a play for a gui beyond the touch screen. Sorry to disappoint, but stereographic VR will never be mainstream.

Just a few years away from Star Trek: TOS food cubes.

3D print yourself in chocolate and full-color sugar candy with the ChefJet Pro

Be honest: This is the moment you've been waiting for -- at least since 3D Systems picked up Sugar Lab a few months back and quite probably even longer.

Now, when they can start programming different flavors, we'll have another matching technology. We already have flip-phones, blue-tooth wearable communicators, touch screens, and big-ass monitors. I'm still waiting for my "tea, earl grey, hot" replicator, though.

I think these are just leftover 3D glasses parts.

Epson Debuts Smart Glasses For Enterprise And Sports Stadium Fun | TechCrunch

Epson is going after Google with its own heads-up display glasses. The Moverio BT-200 is a head-controlled device with a screen that overlays a transparent...

Wearables is the new big fad, and the production lines had all these glasses type things in inventory from when they thought we all wanted to watch 3D. Well, good luck with the next fad. The lesson from the collapse of 3D is that nobody wants to wear stuff over their face. Period.

I got a very nostalgic feeling reading about the Trappists at Assumption Abbey.

Bell tolls changing times at Assumption Abbey, but the fruitcake is everlasting.

The monks talk about their work of making fruitcakes, but the way they brought out the old jokes, and the way they spoke of their brothers who've passed away already, felt exactly like talking to the older guys at my brother's monastery at the Abbey of New Clairvaux. Plus, that habit of not naming the cats that come around: exactly the same.

Pantone 1767 ties many things together.

According to Elcyclista, Pantone 1767 is the color of an eraser, a cherry blossom, and the leader's jersey in the Giro d'Italia. And now, available in coffee cups!

Now that I'm 40, I guess I have to pay attention to this stuff.

Hangovers hit harder after 40 years age. I'll just have to make sure I drink a bit more water with my hooch. I also have to keep my brother's future liver transplant just a bit more healthy than he's keeping mine. At least he's no longer taking Tylenol for his hangovers. Thanks bro!
