Regin the refugee turns out to be related to the king, but needs to go to Ganelon's capital to prove her identity. Mira and Elen work together to defeat Thenardier's new dragons.

Whoa whoa whoa! Things are moving fast in this episode.

I was right. That blonde refugee is the child of the King. But they gave us a great revelation about Regin the refugee. She's actually the Prince that was supposed to have been killed in the first episode! Not only has Regin been pretending to be a boy since even the last time Tigre met her 10 years before, but she also pretended to be dead after that battle where Tigre was taken prisoner by Elen. She was attacked by assassins during a surprise night raid, so she didn't know who had wanted her dead. You know what? I still don't know who has been sending those assassins after Tigre or Mira.

 

Ganelon appears to be some kind of wizard, using magic to either predict the future or spy on others' actions. His whole deal with moving against the King and Alsace was trying to get as far as he could before Thenardier had new dragons ready. Because Tigre went down South to stop the Muozinel invasion instead of Thenardier, his plans went to pot, and he burned his whole capital city down instead of meeting Thenardier and his dragons. That guy doesn't care about his citizens at all!

 

One War Maiden has been feeling a little antsy in her pantsy hearing about this red haired dude gathering other War Maidens to his harem. Valentina quickly discovers how all this happened.



Buy the blu-rays, I guess. What's the big deal with showing a pokey through her pasty? Japanese censorship boggles my mind. Valentina's dragon gear appears to be able to slice through time and space. That's pretty handy for someone whose territory is farthest away from the Zhcted capital. Sofy doesn't appear to be too happy that Valentina is on the move right when she's been dispatched as an emissary to see Elen. These girls have enough competition with each other for Tigre's attention without adding another War Maiden to the mix.

 

Tigre has a pretty good memory.



Whatever he felt in his sleep doesn't match what he remembers from Lim's snakebite adventure. The man's an archer. He has very sensitive hands.

 

Elen, no matter how strong she is as a warrior, still has a confident immature personality.

 



She's not quite sure why she's being praised, but all that matters is that Tigre praised her and no one else. Looks like Lim has been waging a losing battle on training Elen's sense of pride.

Oh hoh! Regin didn't just invite Tigre to eat with her to have an unpoisoned meal, but also to test his worth as a noble man.



Just think of all the work Regin had to put into dressing to pull off being a boy all this time. I'm short of breath just thinking about it, in more ways than one!

Mira and Elen made short work of those dragons without the special chains, which showed how badass two war maidens are instead of one by taking three out in one shot. The magic chains couldn't stop two War Maidens working in tandem though, it just slowed them down a little.

Hmm.

I'm not sure what Ganelon's playing at now, since he fled the field, and burned down his cities just so Thenardier couldn't capture any supplies when he invaded. Is he looking for Tigre and Thenardier to soften each other up? His soothsaying magic didn't seem to account for Tigre's actions at all and he doesn't know that Roland gave Durandal, the only effective weapon against War Maidens, to Tigre too. Stuff is going on and Ganelon plays the long game.

 

The Zchted King thinks his War Maidens have had enough adventure and I think he's right. Elen and Mira appear to be assuming new roles as the War Maidens for an ascendant King. He shouldn't be giving away his strategic weapons for free, you know. He's sending Sofy to remind Mira and Elen of their duties and perhaps Valentina is exercising her loyalty to the Zchted kingdom in maneuvering Elen and Mira back to their original duties.

 

I had thought that Regin was a princess and would offer the path to legitimacy for Tigre to be offered the crown. However, she is now the main driver of the plot to restoration as the recognized heir. Ganelon knew that she was a girl, as did Tigre's friend Mathas. I would faint too if I thought the prince/princess was dead and she just walked through an open door.

 

If Ganelon knew that Regin was alive, does that also mean he wasn't the one who sent the assassins? He even knew about the Black Bow being awakened to some purpose. He still had designs on the throne, as shown by his killing of Roland, so all these plots are just moves on a huge chess board.

 

Mira and Elen took out Thenardier's dragons, but we don't know how well Tigre's forces were doing against the other parts of the enemy army. I expect more magic things happening when the heir to the crown opens a special grotto. I also expect some more harem hijinks when Sofy joins the party and discovers a new blonde girl diluting Tigre's attention.
