Moved to Substack

I have been on Blogger's platform since 2006. That's before Google bought them! But the benign, then the malign, neglect for keeping a blogging platform viable through the changes as the internet evolved kept chafing at me since 2015.

Blogger has recently separated itself from needing a Google account to blog after the hilarious failure of Google's social media endeavors. Still, it never embraced promoting and sharing content after it became secondary to social media posts. Looking at the vanilla "share content" buttons tells you how stuck in the past Blogger is.

So, this is my last post on Blogger. Nineteen years through so much upheaval and evolution of content creation was a wild ride. But Blogger is the past, and it will stay in the past.

What about WordPress? Ask the WordPress guys how they feel about the infighting between its founder and open-source platforms that compete with it. How comfortable do you think your free WordPress.com account and blog are now?

As someone who saw the birth of the internet through email chains and newsletters, I laugh every day that the most successful content creators for a thousand-word block of text rely on distributing to their avid subscribers through email again. What a failure Web 2.0 was.

So, follow my content on Substack. You can use RSS feeds, but you get curated content directly in your inbox if you subscribe.

Most of my blog content is already over there. The import process was easy, but the formatting did not carry over. TLDR; all my pictures and text are over at Substack. You don't need to use Blogger to find an old blog post. The video of 10 Second Anime didn't make it over, though. But after Google nuked my Drive content after a copyright troll from France spammed DMCA takedown notices for fair use content, it doesn't matter.

Blogger and Google are in the rearview mirror of text and multimedia content creation. Selling ads next to AI-generated and scraped content doesn't pay their bills anymore.

So, please, come to Joeschmo1of3 Omake Gif Anime & Omake ScreenCap | Joe Morris | Substack. Subscribe so you get the Geh content you like and other process-oriented material. (Who wants behind-the-scenes stuff instead of anime boobies? People do, apparently.) Substack makes it easy to contribute monetarily, too.

I hope to see all of you loyal readers over at Substack. Please comment to let me know who you are. The next phase of blogging begins now. Please join me.

Finds from the Grind - SchmoBike 40000!

Another big round number for the mileage on the bike. It took a little over two years from SchmoBike 30000!, so that means I'm doing a little bit over 4500 miles a year. Not bad for 10 months of riding.

Finds from the Grind - Following Spencer's Wheel

I latched on to the back wheel of this nice young man climbing Chevy Chase and Linda Vista for the first time. He didn't know where he was going because he just moved down from Oregon three weeks prior but he wanted to make a loop of some sort back to downtown LA. I extorted, uh, promised him some directions from the bottom of Lida if he let me suck on his wheel up this nice climb.

As you can see from the watermark, I also tried out Microsoft's new Hyperlapse time lapse video tool. Compared to how my videos usually look when I speed them up, this is way smoother.

Blog Hiatus

Gomen~ (sorry).

Due to travel on short notice for a funeral, there won't be any posts for a few days. It will take a few days after I return before I get back into a frivolous enough state of mind to write about anime, so expect a backlog for the next couple of weeks.

Hey, Kids! Take my "advize" and "chooze" to spell "looose" with three O's.

I'm sure you've seen it, maybe you've even done it yourself. Someone wrote on the internet that they were about to "loose" their mind. As if their brain was held in their head by a belt or only a closed spigot kept things from leaking out. Obviously, they meant "lose." Why does this happen so often? I posit that it's an over reliance on spell check.

Loose and lose can be spelled correctly, but in different contexts they mean very different things. My suggestion - just spell both of them with 3 O's "looose." Why would I suggest such a thing? Internet texting and social media posts reward creatively misspelling words as a way to convey enthusiasm, silliness, or just plain fun. I'm totally looosing my mind over this!

Even better, spellcheck is triggered no matter what device you're tapping that amazeballs comment into. Better yet, if you make this a habit, when you need to spell "lose" or "loose" correctly so as not to signify to the recipient that you're lazy, then the spellcheck trigger will force you to figure out the appropriate word you want to put in your email or text. "Loosing a client" sounds way dumber than "shaking lose some sales leads," but you shouldn't type either of them.

So, kids, just misspell "looose" with three O's no matter what and people will never think you're dumb and lazy. You're just a fun person!

Try this with "advize" too. The advise - advice thing is another word pair that doesn't trigger spellcheck. But if you spell both words "advize" all the time, you will have a "nizer" time. See what a fun guy I am!

"Chooze" is another fun spelling to show your neato wit. No one likes having others think you mixed up a past tense chose with choose because you're too lazy to correct the autosuggest on your phone. "Chooze" to be that wild and crazy text typist!

Sadly, I have no help to offer on "your dumb." That's all on you. Try harder, or just go the safe route with "ur dumb." You still look lazy, but at least you don't look dumb.

If you have other word pairs that need to be misspelled spectacularly, leave them in the comments below. I'll take your advize!

Updated - Blogger's New Content Policy

Update: I guess Google worried about the future Tumblr exodus of 2015, and decided to actually use their big googly searchy thing to, you know, find actual porn sites being run on Blogger. So, nothing changes here, and no worries about the dreaded review process (please, please Mr. Google, I only have man nipples on my site now!) Original post below.

Spider at Work

Spider webs are pretty much everywhere in my backyard, but those poor little guys hardly catch anything. I saw this guy wrapping his rare meal for later.

Anime Questions Ice Bucket Challenge!

Okay, there is no ice bucket involved with these questions, but the tagging nature of The Inspector Green Tag reminded me of the ALS ice bucket challenge from last August. Yes, I got challenged, and icy wet too. But just like then, I'll invoke my curmudgeon card (complete with rake of doom) and tell you kids to get off my lawn. However, I will happily answer your questions from my driveway.
