This is pretty much all we saw of Ayaka in the OVA. Still totally dominating the other witches.

After the events of the original series, this OVA finds many of our characters missing or doing other things. Takamiya's little sister thinks it's time to get him back from Ayaka, but that works out as well as you would expect from teaming up with seriously underpowered Tower Witches. Oh well, let's enlarge all the plushy familiars and have a ridiculous tag team wrestling match in the middle of the city.

Evermillion's power saves the city, and dueling contracts keep our heroes alive. Back to peaceful days for Takamiya and Ayaka? Kinda sorta.

Week End blows up everything, but Takamiya puts everything back together, and somehow Ayaka exchanges her life for his when he used Evermillion's power. Week End is not a happy camper, and stabs him in the back, literally. Her plan was to take White Princess Evermillion in some fashion if he died, but she has to settle for leaving him alive and coming back at a later date with another plan.

I'll discuss this a little more in my final thoughts of the series, but we get an awful lot of Sherlock Holmes style explanation after-the-fact with this show. Long story short, Ayaka's contract with Evermillion supersedes Takamiya's more recent one, but all Evermillion did was rescind Ayaka's contract with Takamiya, returning his bit of magic that she uses for healing back to him, leaving him enough magic so he doesn't die. Man, these witches have to be lawyers to make stuff happen with their familiars. Which explains why even enemy familiars act like this if they're not fighting each other.

Week End has been planning this attack for a long time. Is Evermillion mode Ayaka too late to save the citizens?

Lots of good witch-on-witch action this week. No, not like that... unless you're thinking of giant teddy bears whaling on each other, then yes, exactly like that! Medusa makes a quick side trip while being on the lam to gather up her little Tower Witch gang. Does this mean it's their last appearance? I hope not.

Meanwhile, Takamiya finds himself in a weird dimension after seeing some of Mrs. Kagari's memories. Mr. Mikage is in charge of this strange place with lots of stars, because they represent the souls of all the citizens in the town, where they're being kept safe until the city can start repairing itself. Those who make contracts with cities can look into the memories of previous contractors, which lends itself to a nice continuity. But even here the Tower Witches have found a way in, and Mr. Mikage has to forcibly awaken Takamiya so that his mind/soul won't be harmed in the battle.

Ayaka has already taken off to meet Week End at her hideout. We find out she had been planting the bombs in the city for over a year in preparation for her attack, and has only been using her magic for healing. This explains why Chronoire knew her as an information broker a long time ago, and why she seemed so weak in making her attacks, relying on explosives. Tower Witches really don't have as much magic as a Workshop Witch, especially ones receiving magic through the contract of the city, so Week End's strategy of putting them all on equal footing was a good one. She just didn't think her target, Takamiya, would also make a contract with the city, letting the other Workshop Witches use magic again. Ominously, we cut to a quick scene of Mrs. Kagari talking to herself that it may be about time. Time for what? She's already built her magic back up? The last seal in Takamiya holding Evermillion back already broke? Could be another underestimation by Week End.

After Takamiya wakes up, Mr. Mikage tells him, after defeating the Tower Witch who had infiltrated the citizens' safety zone, that Week End had also planted her explosives there too. If she sets them off, the people of the city will really die, since the magical contract only protects against magical damage.

Takamiya flies to Ayaka's location, and his proximity allows her to use his magic from their own contract, and we get Evermillion Fire Mode Ayaka. She quickly dispatches one masked Tower Witch and lays out Week End with a devastating overhead kick. Unfortunately, we end the episode on our cliffhanger, with Week End thumbing her trigger. Next week is the last episode, so I guess the craziness has to stop some time.

Week End causes a lot of chaos. Takamiya uses his power, as part of Week End's plan?

While Takamiya and Ayaka move to the center of the city to make a new contract, we get a lot of information on how Workshop Witch's Magic works for the benefit of their cities. Their protection magic only works on civilians, but it does give other witches permission to use their own magic. But with Mrs. Kagari drained of her magic, the other witches can't use magic. And if they try to substitute themselves for another Workshop witch, unless they have the same amount of magic as Mrs. Kagari, they'll get sucked dry in seconds, and die.

There are other Tower Witches running around looking for Takamiya, and they can use their magic. Still, Ayaka can take one down with "a regular flying knee." Her mother had some harsh training methods for her and Rinon when they were younger, to be able to attack even without magic.

As Takamiya and Ayaka make it to the large tree underneath the city, Week End has captured some hostages to force the remaining witches to bring Takamiya to her. They only have half an hour to do so, but it takes 45 minutes just to reach the cell where they were supposed to be kept. As the seconds tick away, Takamiya makes the contract with the tree, and the other witches feel their magic coming back to them. Rinon and Natsume save the hostages and take down Week End.

They put her in a special cell, but they didn't search her, and she's wearing a suicide bomber's vest. She warns the young Workshop Witches not to think only of magic when it comes to fighting. The older ones knew how to fight. Week End breaks out of the cell with the explosives, while wearing some padded armor underneath the vest. She's still injured though, and even spits out a tooth.

Takamiya can now feel and "see" when people are injured in the city, and somehow Week End can communicate with him. Seeing that he didn't do anything when just Rinon and Natsume were hurt, she goads him into action by setting off more of her teddy bear bombs, and Takamiya heals all the injured witches, going against the rules of the regular contract. Week End seems to like this, because it's a change in how Workshop Witches work, and she gets to see his special power, the Craftwork of Fire. Takamiya can't stop himself from using more of his power, and Ayaka has to make him stop. Head butt!

The Actual Big Bad unleashes her plot. Mrs. Kagari is captured. Takamiya and Ayaka have to go on the run.

Okay, if you're looking at a chessboard from the perspective of the pieces, nothing is going to make sense about what is happening and where you're going. This week, the Actual Big Bad lets us look at the whole board, and now this crazy show makes sense.

The Tower Witch Week End asks Mrs. Kagari to meet, which was the urgent business she had to attend, leaving Chronoire in charge of the school. She has fashioned a huge magical time bomb to take advantage of the Workshop Witch's protection spells on the regular inhabitants of the towns they live in. Week End had sent all these little Tower Witches to cause a little chaos, with the strategic goal of using up Mrs. Kagari's magic. Workshop witches are indeed overpowered, and the little bit of citywide damage was not enough to tax Mrs. Kagari at all. But the chaos also served as a distraction to allow Week End to finish creating her spell, which is supposed to be powerful enough kill all the citizens in town. This will definitely be enough to use up all of Mrs. Kagari's magic.

Meanwhile, Ayaka decides it's time to train Takamiya to use his magic. Her training methods are as cold and harsh as she is. Heh. Here, let's throw you off the tallest building, and while you're falling to your death, think of something big and strong to protect you. Okay, how about a huge white Ayaka wearing a nurse uniform and glasses? No good? The kind of magic Takamiya brought out evidently matches the White Princess Evermillion, but we haven't seen her in a while.

Mr. Mikage and Chronoire saw this large familiar appear, and calmly talk about the 2nd of 5 seals already broken inside Takamiya. It still seems odd to me that Mikage is hiding this secret from Mrs. Kagari, just as Ayaka is doing. Ayaka wants to keep the quiet school life going, but what is Mikage's deal, other than wanting to take Ayaka's place in protecting Takamiya? That's also still creepy...

At Week End's lair, she finishes explaining her plan to weaken Mrs. Kagari, with the goal of capturing Takamiya. At least the little Tower Witches knew that much of the plan, even if they had no way of completing the goal themselves. Week End sets off the bomb, explosions rock the city, Mrs. Kagari runs out of magic, and the 5 Crafting Witches really in charge of protecting the city assemble at the emergency base.

Kasumi, Rinon, and Touko we know, and we meet two others for the first time. Their goal, without Kasumi knowing, is to incapacitate Ayaka so they can lock both her and Takamiya up for safe keeping. This makes sense as a contingency plan if they ever lost the protection magic of the Workshop Witch. They are placed in a magic dampening cell similar to Ayaka's timeout cell.

Mrs. Kagari is locked up too, and won't regain her magic for a week. One of Week End's teddy bears has already found Takamiya's location, and she's headed there. Even without magic, Ayaka knows how to blow up stuffed animals, and with the explosion, they've blown a hole in their cell wall. Will they go on the run for a week? Or does Mrs. Kagari actually know the seals have been broken, and Evermillion is her trump card? And will a suddenly remembered memory of Takamiya telling a young Ayaka her future signal a death flag? Things are about to get hectic in the last few episodes.

Ayaka learns to be a middle school student, but it was all a dream? Or not? And the former student council president isn't done with Takamiya yet.

This episode seems to be a bit of a breather, but it's still ridiculous. In a flashback, we see two of the student council members back in middle school being asked by Mrs. Kagari to take care of her daughter when she attends their school. Ayaka has a cross-hatched scar around her neck that we've never seen before, and it appears that she's never been socialized to participate in class and be in groups of people. However, during the flashbacks, we see elements that certainly don't belong. Like penguins everywhere, the Tower Witches appear as their younger selves, and Chronoire's alligator familiar also makes appearances. The flashback ends when Ayaka finally finds which school Takamiya has been attending and she sees him for the first time. Then Takamiya wakes up, and the flashbacks are all just a dream he had. But are they? The scar we've never seen before is now on Ayaka's neck when her collar is loose. Although the scar's appearance seems inconsistent, because when Ayaka is in the nurse outfit, the scar is gone. The show has alluded to some kind of accident or incident that happened to Takamiya and Ayaka causing some memory loss. Perhaps with the seals breaking down, those memories are coming back.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Takamiya is very happy to have all the Tower Witches living with them, much to the annoyance of Kasumi. If thing at home have settled into a new normal, things at school have not. Suddenly, a bear-suited gang of delinquents invades the school and starts vandalizing it, and social order breaks down quickly. The attack coincidentally happens on the day Mrs. Kagari was away on some business and has Chronoire stand in for the Chairperson. But since she stands for chaos, like all good Tower Witches, she doesn't do anything stop the destruction. Mr. Mikage is down for the count in the infirmary after falling unconscious somehow. And Kasumi is also somehow absent. Strangely, Ayaka is also doing nothing about the vandalism, instead she's telling Takamiya that this is happening because his approval rating as the new Student Council President is so low. Ah. Something ridiculous and contrived is going to happen.

The vice-vice-president Touko explains that Bear-Killer Rinon, the gang leader, has been provoked to attack the school by the ex-president, who told her terrible lies about Takamiya, even claiming he "used her up as a woman and threw her away." Well, sisterhood roars, and all that. Rinon challenges Takamiya to a fight after school. Ayaka gives Takamiya some pointers on how to beat Rinon, and cheers him on.

We get some answers about Medusa and Ayaka Kagari's alliance, with the same set of circumstances told from many perspectives. Ayaka destroys the school, again, by the power of lovey-dovey devotion.

Witch Craft Works didn't leave us hanging for explanations for very long. It was obvious that Ayaka was hiding Medusa because she was a witness to the reawakening of White Princess Evermillion, and if her mother found out about that, she would know the seals have been broken, and their arrangement of protecting a peaceful high school life would also be broken. In most harem shows, the undeserving main character mewls about having a peaceful high school life, only to have that dream shattered by a parade of magical girls who all fall in love with him, as he is sucked into whatever drama these girls bring with them. Here, it's the magical bodyguard who wants to protect this peaceful high school setting, which is why Ayaka also won't let Kasumi the little sister drag Takamiya away from the city.

Medusa and Ayaka sign a contract, which lets the 5 tower witches and her stay in Ayaka's room, with the promise of melding Medusa's power with the Flame Witch when called upon. Through standard rom-com hijinks, the witches and Medusa are discovered by Mrs. Kagari, and Ayaka ends up fighting her mother with Medusa's power. However, Ayaka is no longer invincible, as the Evermillion mana supplied by Takamiya considers Medusa's magic to be a corruption, and her mother has no trouble overpowering her. That's when Takamiya uses a bit of his magic to switch places with Ayaka before Mrs. Kagari can bitch-slap the bejeezus out of her.

He wakes up in Ayaka's timeout cell, and it looks like she's spent some time there before. We also get to hear her familiars talk for the first time, and they sound like very submissive small pets, except when they feel a fight coming on. The cell is specially designed to prevent Ayaka from breaking out, so they're stuck for awhile as Ayaka explains how Medusa and the witches were in the house the entire time after her mansion was destroyed.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Kagari is having a shogi match with her old, and still imprisoned, best friend Chronoire, and losing badly. Mrs. Kagari has the reputation of being the "Master Idiot Detective" because she's always jumping to the wrong conclusions. She figured Medusa was teaming up with her daughter because she wanted a strong successor. She didn't have a chance to find out about the appearance of Evermillion, because some other Crafting Witches took Medusa back to prison before Mrs. Kagari could interrogate her. She promptly escaped from those witches, so the wider community also doesn't know about the seals in Takamiya being broken. So far, only Takamiya, Medusa, the Five Tower Witches, Ayaka, and Mikage know. That last one still is a mystery to me.

Just when Mrs. Kagari thinks her own peaceful school life has returned, Ayaka and Takamiya blow up their prison cell. Part of the strange sense of proportion and perspective with these Witches is the devotion to the Japanese idea of the "penalty-game." Winners of duels and matches get to tell the loser what to do. This is how Medusa agreed to stay hidden in Ayaka's room, and this is how Ayaka figures she'll convince her mom to let them stay in school when she finds out the seals have been broken and Evermillion has appeared.

Well, they don't get that chance at a duel, because the Crafting Witches who had taken Medusa from Mrs. Kagari suddenly appear and tell her they're on their way now. Several hours after they've taken custody of her? I'm sure that detail has to do with how Medusa escaped. Mrs. Kagari gets pissed off again at those other Witches, she forgets to be angry at her daughter, and lets her and Takamiya go back home.

Later, we get an explanation of how Ayaka was able to break out of the cell: more of some shared intimacy with Takayima. Squee! She figured it was a kiss on the cheek that gave her a big boost of power when she broke out of Medusa's petrification spell, so she needs something more. Takamiya thinks it's going to be something more, alright. Eh? Just Ayaka doing the Japanese ear-cleaning ritual... Such a traditional young woman. Well, she obviously got a bang out of that.

From the closing credits, we see that the Kagari mansion is fully repaired, but it looks like Ayaka is going to be staying with the Takamiyas from now on. Along with the Five Tower Witches?! With Medusa escaping, and Mrs. Kagari not even bothering to interrogate those Five, she still does not know about the broken seal and Evermillion. I hope they don't keep us in the dark about Mikage for too long, either. I still don't know what his deal is, but maybe we'll get answers next episode.

Kagari shows off her Princess Power. Kasumi shows off her, um, Little-Sister Power. Mr. Mikage seems to have all the answers.

I still don't know what's going on here. Kagari is now staying with the Takamiyas, and when Kasumi objects forcefully to her mother, Mrs. Takamiya has a sudden bout of debilitating depression. It looks like it's a common occurrence in the Takamiya household. From stray comments passed around, the Crafting Witches don't know where Medusa is, but Kagari does. What's the deal with that?

Meanwhile, the Student Council wants to do something about the Takamiya problem. Apparently, the "Princess" title is an official one, with the winner chosen by election at the Fall Festival. He or she is to act as the model student for the school, and is not supposed to be monopolized by any one student. Hence, the Takamiya "problem." The power structure puts the Council at a disadvantage, because the Princess is above them, and answerable only to the Board Chairperson, who happens to be Kagari's mother. The President asks the Faculty Advisor, Mr. Mikage to intervene.

Mr. Mikage has a meeting with the two of them about the Student Council's issue, and Takamiya learns all about the Princess title. Kagari adds one more tidbit of information: the first Princess was a familiar who came down to learn with the other students, so Kagari being a Witch adds some extra responsibility to the position. I wonder if that first Princess was White Princess Evermillion...

Mr. Mikage has another agenda, though. After sucking he and Takamiya into a magical dimension, he reveals himself to be a kind of alchemical witch. He knows all about Takamiya's five seals keeping the White Princess' power in check, but now that the first seal is broken, and the pill he took is a slow poison slowly breaking down the other seals, Takamiya might become an enemy of Mrs. Kagari, instead of someone she's been assigned to protect. He also knows Kagari is hiding Medusa. Somehow Kasumi is eavesdropping from inside Mr. Mikage's magical space, and hears that Mr. Mikage himself wants to be Takamiya's special bodyguard. What is going on here? This show is still crazy!

At that moment, Kagari pierces through the magical shell, and Mr. Mikage too, and drags Takamiya back to the class room they were in. Mr. Mikage has left a substitution log, like a ninja show, labeled with the word "Wrong." Kagari begins her plan, and calls a school assembly. Here's the Princess using her Princess Power!

With the sudden announcement for an assembly, the Student Council President barges into Board Chairperson Kagari's office to complain about what her daughter is doing. Behind Mrs. Kagari's back is the substitution log belonging to Mr. Mikage. What? How? What's going on here? Crazy!

At the assembly, Kagari announces that she is firing the Student Council President, and installing Takamiya in her stead. Board Chairperson Kagari seems to be moved to tears that her daughter has done all this for the school. What? Why? Crazy! At their first student council meeting, we now have a president, a vice president in Kagari, and a vice-vice president Touko, the former vice president. Kagari bribed her into taking on this role by letting her wash her gym uniform...

With all the impediments out of the way, Kagari and Takamiya think they can now relax, and just concentrate on the witchy problems of protecting Takamiya, without worrying about regular students trying to separate her from Takamiya. That relaxation period lasts only long enough for Kasumi to throw a car at Kagari, and hit her with 3 tranquilizer darts. Ah, Little Sister Power... Also, I think all the villains we're going to see in this show are right here on these shelves.

The "something white" finally comes out of Takamiya. The Big Bad Medusa is as effective as the other Tower Witches. And the comedy is overwhelming with personality!

The whole scene with Takamiya's mother just floored me. There were so many times I was just agape at the dialogue and laughing. They're all crazy. All of them. And it's hilarious! Mrs. Takamiya is treating that magic teddy bear as if it were one of the kids, even chiding them, "You know that I can't handle it when you, your sister, and bear talk all at once." Wat?!! I'm still smiling at that. Most of the time Takamiya is the audience's stand-in for discovering this strange new world full of witch factions, but at times like this, he is not the audience's friend. Takamiya, there is a stuffed toy walking around, and all it says is "kuma" (bear) like a damned Pokemon, and you think you can't explain to your mom about witches? What is going on here? I've taken crazy pills and I like it!! Oh, and if you can't read what it says on the bear's belly, it says New York Spirit. Why? Dunno. Has to match the American flag bowtie...

Okay, Mrs. Takamiya has explained her history with Kagari's mom, which seems straight out of a lesbian rom-com, and they promised that their kids would get married since they couldn't. I wonder if Mrs. Kagari knows about this... So it's way alright for Takamiya and Kagari to shack up. Kasumi the little sister hates this idea, but her mom calls her out on her bro-con, and says give it up already. That trope about the overprotective sister? In this show, it's not a clever substitution for her bodyguard duties. It's in addition to all the overprotective little sister tendencies! I love this show!

Of course, Kagari has her issues too, as she tries to hide her little Takamiya dolls from him. And her house is huge! Oh, and those aren't maid statues in the foyer, the Big Bad Medusa is ready to attack. Takamiya wants to help fight, but Kagari says he can't. No, he literally cannot because she hasn't taught him any offensive spells yet. Things happen, Kagari gets petrified, and Takamiya eats that candy spell Chronoire made so he can unleash his "white stuff."

I was not expecting the white stuff to refer to his familiar. Shiro Hime Evermillion. Could be Shiro Hime E. Vermillion. White Princess E. Vermillion makes a quick slap at Medusa, and destroys the mansion in the process. Mrs. Kagari doesn't like that at all, since she watched it happen from her office. Medusa seems to know who this Vermillion is. She is a very confident magical being, and already likes to tease Takamiya, whom she calls Honoka-kyuun (Honoka is Takamiya's given name). She tells him that Kagari got petrified because he lost a little confidence in her, and that to break the petrification spell, which wasn't the full-on petrification that Medusa can do, he just needs to kiss her like a sleeping beauty. And then Vermillion disappears. It seems that Honoka-kyuun can't summon her for very long.

With Kagari awake and at full power, she makes quick work of Medusa and the 5 Tower Witches who came to help her. The Big Bad taken out in one episode? What kind of show is this? Oh, right, it's crazy! Takamiya wakes up in the nurse's office, and is glad to see Kagari is alright. Kagari then pays him back with a kiss on his cheek, and tells him never to offer his eyes to a demon again. Sooo, she was awake underneath that skin of stone. Takamiya asks what happened to Medusa, and Kagari pulls back the curtain to the next bed, and Medusa is right there. Hello. Hah! Here we have Takamiya acting as the audience's stand-in again. What, why? Kagari says she's not going to attack, and she'll explain later. It's like they're all classmates arguing over some pudding, except they argue with exploding volcanoes and petrification spells. But when the argument is over, they're right back to sitting next to each other in class. This show is crazy!

Meanwhile, Mrs. Kagari is pissed about her mansion, calls an emergency meeting of all the Crafting Witches in the city, launches an all-out attack on Chronoire and her army of 30 Tower Witches, and it's over justlikethat. The Crafting Witches are sooo overpowered. The Big Bad in Medusa is recovering in the nurse's office. The other potential Big Bad in Chronoire is now captured and being tortured at the end of the episode. What is going to happen next? I don't know! But I'm sure it's going to make me laugh and say wtf all over again.

Something I just noticed is that the ending credits keep adding the new characters to the scrolling scenes showing the Crafting Witches and the Tower Witches. Recent events are added to the backgrounds of those scenes. So for this week, we now have Medusa and Vermillion in there, along with the Kagari mansion under renovation in the background. So many little touches in this show. It's becoming my favorite for the season.

Penguins and teddy bears. It seems the Takamiya siblings have much in common. Way too much in common. And the Big Bad of the season is revealed.

We've got some big reveals this week, not least of which (heh), is that Kasumi, Takimiya's little sister, is also a Crafting Witch. She's been the one assigned to protect Takimiya when he's not doing school stuff. Perhaps Takamiya is oblivious, or he can't see it, but there's a teddy bear running around the kitchen brushing its teeth in the morning. Guess whose familiar that belongs to. Kasumi is big into teddy bears. Or is that into Big Teddy Bears? Meanwhile, Takamiya has penguins on the brain. Specifically, sculpture through chiseling. There's just way too much personality in this show for each of the characters. Including Kasumi. We have the trope of the overprotective little sister, but we're given a reason for it. She also likes to tease her big brother.

Kagari starts Takamiya's training. More witches join the hunt for his, uh, white stuff. Takamiya wa robe de kawaii. Those brooms are nice too.

Those five witches of the tower getting blasted is going to be a running gag, huh? That's fine with me. More running gags are the buttload of death threats Takamiya gets in his shoe locker along with the glares from all of Kagari's fans. She, of course, takes no notice. She's got to get started training her precious apprentice. He's got to hit the books first though. Teacher will help, count on it.

The witches don't care about Takamiya, they just want his body. Uh, wait. They just want something white that's in his body... That's not a better explanation!

Apparently those five new witches are no match for Kagari, even combined. They try to explain to Takamiya why they're targeting him, but it just ends up sounding perverted. Oh well, we've got more than a hint this time around. Also, a cute touch is that part of Kagari's flame nature involves cute little familiars hanging around her. They're a bit smirkier than she is, but they still seem to match her moods, which is good for the viewer, since Kagari is portrayed as a stoic.

With all the random attacks happening to Takamiya, even in department stores, it's no wonder Kagari and her mother, the headmaster of the school, think it's a good idea to take him on as an apprentice witch. The purpose of the little trip around the city was to buy his new witchy robes, and along the way we meet a few more of the regulars in this witchy world.

As Kagari explains things to Takamiya, there are two kinds of witches in the world: Crafting Witches, who protect the towns which grow up around their workshops, and Witches of the Tower, who represent chaos and accruing power for their own selfish ends. There is a bounty on Takamiya's body, and his own nature has been hidden from him as he's grown up. Mind you, I wouldn't mind being targeted by this dark-skinned beauty:

Witch Craft Works - Episode 1

The tall, quiet, beautiful idol of the high school happens to be a fire witch bodyguard for that guy? And she calls him princess?

One of the Winter Season's first candidates to take a slot in my 10 Second Anime feature is Witch Craft Works. We have quite a few anime clichés mashed together, but it primarily looks like a harem love comedy, with the twist that the other girls all want to kill our main character.

The first and best girl place is already taken by the tall beautiful, busty, quiet Kagari. She's the high school idol, and has many jealous fans, especially jealous of Takamiya, our main character who coincidentally always rides the same bus, sits next to her in class, and shares after-school cleaning duties. Seemingly coincidentally. After being attacked by a witch with cat-ears by her army of robot bunnies (not very consistent, but maybe that girl just likes bunnies; she does wear a bunny backpack), we find out that Kagari is a flame witch protecting Takamiya, whom she calls "princess." Taller, stronger, and more masculine. Way to go Takamiya. Congratulations on your new mysterious magical girlfriend. Plus, you've earned the overt hatred of all of Kagari's jealous fans.

At the end of the episode, we're introduced to five new transfer students, all apparently witch assassins, including the cat-eared witch with the bunny robot army. I see the five new additions to Takamiya-hime's harem. We'll probably see Takamiya discover his own magical powers, and then "earn" his harem of witches. If we let Kagari have tons of screen time, I won't mind that our main character is so useless early on.

I like the character designs, the action battle scenes were nicely animated, the skirts are the right length, and there was no rushed pacing. Witch Craft Works looks promising with just its first episode so far.
