10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 5

10 Second Anime - Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru Zoku - Episode 5
Taking on a job from his sister to save the Service Club, Hachiman "solves" Iroha's election problem.

Heh.

Komachi is best imouto.

She also knew that whatever her brother did during the school trip was part of the background emotional response from the other girls in the Service Club. The two siblings reconciled over his guilty snappishness from before.

Komachi and Hachiman have had years to perfect their banter. Theirs is pretty much the only normal relationship he has in the show right now.

Talk about how similar Hachiman and Yukino are in using their "gifts." They both need an external motivation, a problem to solve, to act, even on things that would benefit themselves and their friends.

Hachiman has friends, even if he doesn't want to admit it. Who else would come see him if his little sister called them? Only close friends do that. Hachiman just can't ask for help himself.

We already knew Totsuka would do anything for Hachiman (aaaannnything hurr), but look at Saki coming too!

Saki surprised even herself at thinking that Hachiman would make a good president.

Hachiman had the measure of Iroha from the get-go. Convincing her to win the election for all those selfish petty reasons was a stroke of "hidden genius."

Okay, I never want to hear Hachiman try to talk like an airheaded girl again. Just don't do it, Hachiman!

Most disappointed by Hachiman's "solution" was Yukino. We saw that contrast again between Hachiman's short-term benefits versus Yukino's longer view. So afraid of losing the Service Club, Yui and Hachiman never even thought that Yukino would bring them into the Student Council so they could be the official Service Club like the Student Council is supposed to be. Now they have to deal with the coming incompetent tyranny of Iroha.

Yui isn't dumb. She knew Hachiman did something sneaky with the popular microblogging platform (can't call it twitter when the logo was a rooster...), but she decided she didn't have to know all the details. Hachiman's punishment was a good hair tousling.

He had it so rough, I'm sure.

This Iroha girl has some interesting quirks, like thinking that every guy who talks to her is hitting on her. Her batting average on that score may be north of 700, but coming from Hachiman? Uh, no.

Hmm.

The epilogue with the outgoing president talking to Hachiman solved a lot of mysteries for me. She also knew that Yukino would never run for president, even if she were asked, unless it was a problem to be solved. That pretty much told us who signed Iroha up to run and why the "problem" was brought to the Service Club. She was manipulating, in a nice way, Yukino to run for the job. She didn't count on Hachiman mucking things up. Her dream was always to promote the Service Club directly to the Student Council, since they were the shadow student council anyway.

Of course, Hachiman had to offer his cynical response to such a do-over. Would becoming Student Council members, and doing what the Service Club does officially and out in the open, really change his life? He said no, but I'm not sure if that's supposed to be a positive or a negative thing, considering that perhaps the important things in his life would totally overshadow an insignificant detail as being on a high school student council.
