The Sohoku and Hakone teams work together to catch up to their leaders up the road. Midousuji’s team has a plan to disrupt their chase.

This week we saw more esoteric brands in the peloton. The year before, Toudou rode a Redkey, er, Ridley. But since he and Makishima graduated, we have had fewer chances to see that brand name. We saw a broken Colnago with a Merckx next to it. Yowamushi Pedal changed it to “Nerckx.” The Anchor brand, as Answer, is still all over the peloton, and the Kyoto Fushimi small fries ride it too.

Heh.

Flashback before the third stage started. Kumamoto strikes a deal with Kyoto Fushimi and Midousuji. How will it play out on the road? Kumamoto intends to use the peloton’s power to catch the front of the race. Why should they listen to yesterday’s loser? The seniors from several teams bought the argument they had one last chance for glory. The peloton became a pack of piranhas chewing up all the stragglers in its path. All-inclusive of the deal Kumamoto made with Midousuji. That weirdo loves playing with “zako.” Other riders are in trouble if the small fry fish have sharp teeth.

Dumb Kaburagi is still a tool for exposition. Explaining things to him is how Yowamushi Pedal teaches the audience. That’s a bit demeaning to the viewers! Naruko doesn’t buy that Midousuji looks tired. As if Midousuji would give him a straightforward answer. Sportsmanship on display. Bring on the underhanded strategy!

Flashback, again, to when Kyoto Fushimi shaved their heads. Midousuji’s plot is to let his teammates rest inside the peloton. It hurt their pride to be food for the piranhas, but they threw that away with their hair.

Next time, how will Sohoku and Hakone respond to the pack of piranhas under Midousuji’s control?
