Episode 3 — “Double Seven Part III”
Hmm.
Brainwashing or education? Mahouka shows us how perspective depends on whether you agree with the material’s goals. Recall how several groups are in the middle of public perception propaganda and psychological operations to affect the populace’s sentiments against the military and magicians. But the children the anti-magicians claim to protect can run their own psyop. First High School has a reputation for funneling students into the military. But it also harbors a strategic magic weapon trying to keep up a quiet, peaceful high school life. Don’t mess with the BAMF, the Magical Jesus, the walking neutron bomb, or Shiba the Destroyer. Oh, hey. That’s all the same person!
Heh.
I love how Aunt Maya enters a room before she enters a room. Before the school year starts, Maya warns Tatsuya of two Strategic-Class Magicians moving around the Japan Sea. We’ll hear more about them before the end of the Mahouka season.
Tatsuya and Miyuki plan details for a science demonstration to embarrass a progressive rabble-rousing politician. Details don’t matter. There’s a big ball of light the kids need to light up. Will they do it? Of course! So, let’s pay attention to how the kids bicker with each other in the Mahouka episode, specifically the Saegusa twins and the resentful branch family member, Shippou.
It’s so exciting… kids standing around looking at clipboards and tablets. Just like real life! Why is that Shippou boy so angry at a successful experiment? No propaganda opportunities here for the ravenous press.
Enough of that. Let’s have Angelina embarrass herself celebrating Tatsuya’s birthday. At least Tatsuya appreciated the sentiment. The real party starts now, with Miyuki. Aunt Maya recalled how she let Tatsuya stay in high school after he took out the gangsters in the first Mahouka season. She warned him that America would try to kill him. But he turned its assassin into an embarrassed girl sending him birthday videos. Today, he shames grasping politicians with a flash of light.
