The new girl Mimu, who did pro level speed climbing times, made things click for gamer girl Konomi about how to speed climb like a casual game. Speed climbing is rhythm game! Konomi remembered she was good at those too! Her body and fitness has a certain rhythm that matches the wall. Ta-ta-tan, ta-ta-ta! It works for her and Jun was just happy the nonsense worked for Konomi.
Konomi had the concept down, but she needed to put into practice. Putting together the moves of the other girls with the rhythm of the climbing wall to keep the fastest beat possible, Konomi had a productive day.
The final day of training camp was the time to measure everyone's improvement. Konomi raced Kurea, which was good for Kurea's sense of well-being. Akane and Satou watched the formerly slower Konomi match the speed of Kurea all the way up. Better for Konomi, she beat the 15 second threshold, letting Hanamiya be competitive in the team classification at the Combined Cup. Kurea walked away knowing her rival had grown stronger again.
Coach Nakata became emotional as he saw the beautiful climbing girls climb more beautifully. He's not creepy. Not that creepy. Alright, he's creepy, but he has good intentions in a non-exploitative way. Konomi liked Mimu, but her feelings became jumbled when she discovered that she went to the same school as Anne Kurusu. And that Anne is even faster than Mimu, according to the friendly speed climber. Jun and Konomi felt ready to improve on their base of speed climbing skill. Konomi has room to make the most improvement, while Jun got back into the groove of her specialty.
Nonoka was so happy to see her junior teammates again. Mainly because Sayo had put her through such harsh training to learn the more intricate parts of sport climbing. Hot teacher Sayo needs more appearances. Sayo saw how well the other girls were doing, but she started to wear a sad face. She's been hiding something from them.
The next training session, the other girls saw Sayo flexing her speed climbing muscles. Sayo impressed Konomi and Jun, but Nonoka saw something that made her angry. She confronted Sayo about how she was climbing strangely and knew her finger injury wasn't healed yet. Sayo felt she needed to join the team at the Combined Cup because of how well they were doing and how much fun they were having. Unfortunately, this would aggravate the injury and potentially threaten her professional climbing career. Nonoka needed to stop her and make her trust in her team. Sayo got it.
Another six weeks of training montages and the Hanamiya girls had done as much as they could to prepare for the Combined Cup with Sayo's knowledge and Kiku's extra help. Not shown at all was anything to do with the Princess of Lead's specialty. I sense they built a secret weapon in plain sight. They were ready to win it all!
It was time for the Combined Cup. Many old rivals and some new ones arrived to set the stakes for Konomi and the Hanamiya team. Akane seemed oddly confident. Konomi drew a lot of attention from the other teams, including Anne Kurusu. Hilariously, Mimu greeted Konomi in a friendly manner before Anne could start up a mean girl scene. Konomi collected another harem member.
Konomi's team cleaned up the team ranking on their side of the prelim group for bouldering, but they saw that Anne and Mimu's team swept the top six spots for speed climbing. How can Hanamiya find a way to catch up to Anne's team in the prelims and semifinals? How about choosing another field to play on? The dog that isn't barking is anything about the third climbing discipline of lead climbing. The Princess of Lead isn't competing, but what if three of her were? Hmmmmm. The season finale will answer the question of these musings.
