Renly meets Kirito. DIL finds the Integrity Knights Bercouli and Alice well prepared for her force's long distance attacks.
Episode 7 - "Stigma of the Disqualified"
Hmm.
I didn't care much for SAO's Renly sidestory, but it did demonstrate one of the aspects of how the pontifex made her Synthesis personalities. Knowing that Renly was Synthesis 27, which made him one of the later ones, Quinella must have had some kind of a system in identifying good candidates for her Integrity Knights. But what if she didn't? It looked like she chose Renly for the same reason she chose Eldrie — because he won that fighting contest. Unfortunately for Renly, he won by accidentally killing his best friend. We saw how the Synthesis process worked in SAO last season, by picking out a core memory, replacing the target of that memory with Quinella, and then erasing everything else. But what if she chose the wrong core memory?Judging from how Renly ran away from battle, I figured he needed a memory wipe and that Kirito had interrupted the pontifex's schedule. It turns out that Renly's problem was worse than that. The pontifex chose Renly's memory of wanting to be a great knight for his friend, but it was too deeply tied in with accidentally killing him, making him unreliable in his duties when violence was called for. We already knew that Quinella had made herself all-powerful and immortal, but she was still a tinkerer and an experimenter, who never really understood all the system commands and the ramifications for mixing them together haphazardly.
Meh.
Kirito just clenching his swords inspired Renly to act. Look, I like Kirito, but this too maudlin. I get that he's practically paralyzed and missing an arm, but we don't need his hero moments by proxy while he's out of action. Let him handle that stuff on his own when he wakes up.The other thing I could have done without during Renly's story is how he just confessed all his problems to total strangers. Tiese and Ronie didn't need to hear that. At least the goblin chief won't have a chance to tell anyone else about this "failure" of an Integrity Knight.
Heh.
The little dagger girls are stab happy as ever. They know cowardly Renly let the goblins break the line.Renly needed reprogramming. Chudelkin froze him, but I suppose he unfroze when Chudelkin died, or left Underworld clinging to pontifex. Renly's last memory before the cataclysm was being told he was defective.
Renly will probably have a hero arc where he gains Perfect Weapon Control over his twin swallowtail blades to bookend with Bercouli's mastery.
Why did pontifex choose Renly if he won that tournament by killing his friend? Another experiment? She chose Eldrie that way, so maybe.
Interesting. It's a paired throwing weapon, but how does he protect himself when the things are flying around?
Did Renly actually cut himself catching his own weapon? What? Renly redeems himself, if only a little. He was able to get the blades to "remember" their base item and do their special thing. He'd never seen it before, either. The stabby girls don't get to save his life. That redemption arc was quick. Good. I didn't need to know about Renly and now I can forget him.
Whoops. These Dark Mages are going to learn they can't use any of their magic. Bercouli's plan and Alice's skill is just totally unfair!
Oh, those Minion things again. Still no explanation on how pontifex used them for her own purpose.
It looks like the Human Guardian Army prepared well for first contact with the enemy, with Bercouli laying down slashes like aerial mines. But at some point, they're going to have to deal with the changing tactics from the enemy. They can only hope they cut down the Dark Territory numbers enough to handle the messy free-for-all that happens before a break in the carnage.
DIL is operating under ignorance of the Integrity Knights' powers. Their only advantage is sheer numbers for physical attacks. I'm sure the strategy will change when Vecta notices and gives out the order. Alice is the big equalizer using all the dead bodies, but she'll be a target soon enough. Those fist fighters on the Dark Territory side are going to be important.
DIL knows the answer. More wine!
Alice demonstrates why she is the Aliciszation Soul. She sees how both souls of the Dark Territory and Human Empire are the same as she sucks them up into her shiny ball.
All these dark mages have nice cleavage! Oops, no bullets! Alice has sucked up all the material to make magic.
Holy crap! That's totally unfair! That fire was so hot, Alice made lava! The whole Ogre unit is gone! The Dark Mages are useless. The humans have effectively taken out half the Dark Territory army. That only means it's time for a counterattack.
