Chainsaw Man - Episode 1 - Pochita Wants to See Denji's Dreams

Pochita gave his master Denji a second chance at life on one condition: live life to achieve his dreams. He did it!

Chainsaw Man starts out showing Denji and Pochita's desperate life. Denji works to pay off his dead father's debt to a yakuza gang alongside his chainsaw devil companion. Their circumstances are terrible, but their life together is a happy one.

Denji often recalls how he first met an injured chainsaw devil dog and asked it to be his friend in exchange for healing blood. Pochita shared meals and listened to the simple dreams of his young master. But Denji knew he would likely die before Pochita would. He had sold several organs for money already and had tuberculosis. Denji was impatient to start a "normal" life with Pochita after paying off the yakuza's debt.

Unfortunately, the local yakuza was even more impatient about selling devil body parts on the black market. The Zombie Devil lured them into making a deal in exchange for disposing of Denji and Pochita, their devil-hunting team. The Zombie Devil double-crossed the yakuza, turning everyone into zombies, and they attacked Denji and Pochita. Their hacked-up bodies were left inside a bloody dumpster.

It's harder to kill devils than humans, so Denji's blood healed Pochita once more. But would life without Denji be worth it? Denji promised his dead body to Pochita to reanimate if he died before him so the chainsaw devil could live a "normal" life. Pochita, a good dog, had his own dreams. He wanted to see Denji's hopes and ambitions come true, so he gave his best friend his heart and body back.

Denji's combined human and chainsaw devil dog body was a sight to behold. In an instant, he killed the Zombie Devil and its yakuza zombies. Denji's debt was null and void, so his desperate scraping life was over. What would the next chapter look like?

Enter the official Public Safety Devil Hunters Division. Makima's crew came too late to handle the Zombie Devil, but there was still one Fiend alive. The Chainsaw Man asked for a hug! The scary chainsaw parts melted away, and Denji's first dream came true. He fell asleep while hugging a girl. Makima immediately took in the stray dog, Denji.

The opening and closing credits for Chainsaw Man show Denji enjoying a "normal" life with his colleagues in the idiosyncratic Devil Hunters division of the Public Safety bureau. Pochita's dreams came true! Good dog!
