The Soul King summoned the Soul Society's captains to receive the Royal Guards. The five oddball captains wanted five things from them: three injured shinigami, Ichigo, and Ichigo's broken zanpakuto. The Royal Guards also travel strangely. They only move by exploding fireworks underneath them! Kuukaku Shiba helped them.
Renji, Ichigo, Byakuya, and Rukia first spent their time in the healing grounds. Renji and Ichigo healed first, so they went to Kirio Hikifune's eating grounds next. The large lady prepared a feast full of spiritual energy. When she came to talk to them and surprise visitor Kon, she was super thin! Parts of her were still not lean at all. Kirio uses up her spiritual energy when she cooks, so she becomes a voluptuous beauty. She explained to Renji and Ichigo that the five regions of the Soul Kingdom are like the healing and eating grounds. The shinigami would find gifts and hardships in each one.
Back in Soul Society, the ruling council named the laidback Kyoraku the Head Captain. His first request was to let Kenpachi Zaraki learn how to fight with a zanpakuto. The only one that could match his raw power was the previous "Kenpachi." The title means "strongest sword fighter." Captain Unohana used to be the most feared combatant in Soul Society! We learned who gave Zaraki his famous scar. We also saw why Unohano braided her hair to cover her front: to cover a scarred wound Zaraki gave her. Unohana needs to complete Zaraki's training with the sword.
