Saurva attacks Jahy with her newly granted power. Jahy starts ghostbusting to find the source of the mysterious light.

Restoration Plan No. 18 – “Saurva Will Not Lose!”

Hmm.

The Great Jahy built up the tension for Saurva meeting Jahy face to face for fourteen weeks. There is only one response Jahy could have given to Saurva seeking recognition.

Yes. Yes! Jahy has no memory of her. Is it even true that the Magnificent Saurva was the Dark Realm’s Number Three? Did she just imagine these titles to make herself feel better? I’m sure we’ll never know because that’s also part of the joke-generating engine that Saurva became for The Great Jahy. Now that we have a resolution on one of the show’s foremost questions, we can ask others to take its place. Like, did Druj ever know who Saurva was? I’m curious about her reaction to the poor Saurva’s circumstances.

I liked how the episode used Saurva for humorous explanations on how the Power of Light works. The light simply removes misfortune. It can’t hurt anything except mana crystals. When we recall Jahy’s big fight with the Magical Girl, Kyouko’s powers only affected the crystals that Jahy used. There’s consistency here. And when the Power of Light saw that Saurva wasn’t hunting crystals, it left her. Can that power only inhabit demons temporarily? Does it not have enough because the Magical Girl still owns a massive chunk of it? I hope the next episode answers some of these questions when we find out who is the Mysterious Being of Light.

As the season draws to a close for The Great Jahy, we’re seeing many of the issues that fueled running jokes start to resolve. Saurva is still a loveable loser. But her desire for Jahy to recognize her before she usurps Jahy’s rank is now moot. The show will need another motivation to drive Saurva’s inner monologue. Another issue concerns Jahy lying to Druj about her low-class living conditions. All those lies might unravel in the next episode as the pair faces off against the Mysterious Being of Light. They’re fighting in Jahy’s neighborhood, so it’s easy to see how Jahy’s secret life could reveal itself to Druj. Jahy’s pride has been driving this running joke since the second episode. It had a good run.

The Great Jahy has running jokes that will never end because they base themselves on character traits. Maou will always be hungry and eat fast. The Landlady will always feel like she’s competing against Jahy for her older sister’s favor. The Store Manager will always react to events like a calm older sister. She’ll also be the source of big boob jokes forever. Saurva will be the Wile. E. Coyote of the story and Druj will never stop needing humiliating abuse. Because the anime has defined its characters so well, it will still have character-driven comedy after the plot of its first season is over. Characters drive situational comedy, so The Great Jahy makes a case for fun sequels to follow.

Saurva received a holy power-up. She mentioned that she could sense the location of mana crystals. But the first thing she wants to do is fight the Great Jahy. You can’t spell “sassy walk” without “ass.” Jahy spends more time in her grownup form. Here we go! At last! Saurva challenged Jahy face to face. Ahahaha! I’ve been waiting for this nonreaction since the fourth episode. Jahy recognized Saurva as the pathetic girl in the park. Saurva realized that child in the white T-shirt who never gave up was Jahy! The Dark Realm’s Number Two has no idea who is the Magnificent Saurva. That’s the only way the joke of Saurva’s inferiority complex could have ended. Time to fight!

Will this work? The Mysterious Being of Light (MBOL from now on) told Saurva to use her power to destroy misfortune. Ha. Hahaha! The Great Jahy connected Saurva’s light sword to toy lightsabers. It does nothing but light up! Oh, it does something. It heals shoulder soreness and improves blood circulation. Jahy thinks it’s because she’s even more powerful than she was in the Dark Realm. I doubt that. The power of good can do no harm! And it left Saurva because the self-proclaimed Number Three didn’t keep her promise to the MBOL.

This segment of the Great Jahy between Kokoro and Jahy appears out of place. Jahy admitted that she had a friend to the Landlady and the Store Manager. I wonder if Kokoro’s toothache will tie into MBOL. What would Jahy do if Kokoro receives the same holy power that the Magical Girl has? I would hope she heals her mouth pain.

“There’s somethin’ strange in the neighborhood. It’s somethin’ strange, and it don’t look good. Who ya gonna call?” The Great Jahy with Anteater Stance! We saw how the MBOL changed Saurva into a pale blue version of herself. So, it’s funny to hear how that phenomenon translates into a ghost rumor. The women and Jahy even suggest that the ghost is the heavy metal guitarist! Let’s tie up all the loose ends before the end of the season.

Jahy’s fear came true. The MBOL attacks! Jahy can access her crystal power in time. Druj saved her! Oh, right. Jahy can’t admit that this is her poor neighborhood. The loose end of Jahy lying to Druj will tie itself up before The Great Jahy finale too. Huh? The MBOL is worried about fighting Jahy. What’s going on here? Who is MBOL?

Next time, the Demon Lord does more smiting and eating.
