Kaede has watched over Renge her whole life. She feels nostalgic seeing her take care of the younger Shiori now.

Episode 11 – “I Got Drunk and Remembered”

The theme of Non Non Biyori Nonstop this week is big sisters watching little sisters become big sisters. It’s the cycle of life. The imagery of all the spring blossoms and the schoolyear ending reinforces that too. It’s feeling that nostalgic pang that someone you used to protect now protects others. It’s feeling that loss that the little one doesn’t need you anymore. But the wonderful thing about little sisters is that they never stop needing their big sister, even when they’ve become one themselves. Kaede and Kazuho can take comfort in that.

Yay! It’s a Kaede caring for Renge episode in Non Non Biyori! But first, Renge needs to care for Shiori. Renge sees the challenges in watching over young children. Shiori has naptime, so playtime is over. The other girls want to play with Renge and wonder if she’s tired out. As if! Renge is a child of playtime! Dodgeball time.

Afterward, the girls realize that with Nii-chan graduating to high school, Komari will be the eldest at their branch school. Renge realized that with Shiori having a baby sister soon, she’ll be even more of a big sister.

Oh ho! Kazuho wants to drink with Kaede because the kids are about to finish the school year and she wants to take a break from graduation preparations. Ugh. Kaede’s drunk already. Ha! Everything else is shaking, not Kaede. Sweet, beautiful drunk talk. Hoho! Kaede acts super sober with Renge around. Kaede doesn’t want to set a bad example for Renge. Kazuho says she passes out in front of Ren-chon all the time. Not proving her wrong, Kazuho, especially after we saw that camping trip episode.

Flashback! High school girl Kaede loves playing with baby Renge. She’s so tsundere about it too. The other kids came to see Hikage. Uh oh! Konomi makes Kaede jealous by making Renge prefer her. Surly Kaede says she’s not surly. Oh man, Renge rejected Kaede! Aw, she’s sad. There we go. When Renge needs comforting to stop crying, Kaede is the boss. Still tsundere, though.

Back to the present. Kaede feels nostalgic and sad at Renge growing up. Hahaha! Kaede praises all the girls for being good kids, except Natsumi! Ahahahaha! Kaede was about to turn into a bawling mess, but Renge’s presence stopped her. Aw. Now Kazuho gets nostalgic and sad over Kaede growing up. Bigger aw. Renge tucked Kaede back under the covers.
