Part of designing new animals for God is testing them on Earth. Some angels like Higuchi take that to mean taste test too.

Kimura is the angelic designer infamous for insisting on tasting any animal his team creates. One particular animal looked just like a sausage, so he and Higuchi, the prototype engineer, decided on adding capsaicin to discourage predators from eating it.
