A stray dog with an injured paw joined winner Alex Dowsett in the final few
meters of Stage 8 at the Giro.
A noticeable feature of the COVID-19 impacted Giro has been fewer spectators along the road and the groupings by household of families at the start and finish. Apparently, Italians consider dogs to be part of their households, but they don't have to wear masks to attend the race route. The injured little dog who tried to beat Alex Dowsett to the line was not the only dog on Stage 8 to run around the road in front of the motorcycle cameras. I've counted four stages where dogs got away from their leashes and they've thankfully let the riders through without mishap. Let's hope that continues all the way to Milan.
