Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru Kan - Episode 6 - 10 Second Anime

Yui and Zaimokuza join Hachiman on his competing prom committee.

Episode 6 – “Once Again, Hachiman Hikigaya Makes a Speech.”

Hmm.

I thought Hachiman was going to be a “good guy” to help Yukino’s prom proposal win over the PTO, but it looks like he’s going with his usual plan of being the bad guy in Oregairu. His plan isn’t a bad one, by making a proposal so bad, the PTO will have to choose Yukino’s, but I think Mrs. Yukinoshita is savvy enough to see through an apparent false-choice gambit. The key to Hachiman’s plan probably lies with the three main points he saw on Yukino’s white board, where keeping things classy and enforcing a dress code were two of three things I remember. Let’s see what Hachiman and Zaimokuza do, especially with how much the ultra-nerd wants an anti-prom to happen.

Iroha confirmed that Shizuka-sensei is transferring at the end of the school year, which is why she wanted a special event to send her off as well as the graduating seniors. I’m still clinging to the hope her leaving the school is a big fake-out, because Hachiman, Yukino, and Yui aren’t graduating yet, so I think those three should have a happy epilogue with their favorite teacher during their last year of school. We’ll have to see how that shakes out.

Also, Yui continues to make plain how she feels she’s the fake partner of Hachiman, even though her romantic feelings for him are real. It’s a bittersweet thing to watch as she’s self-aware that she’s the fake Yukino helping Hachiman on his fake prom proposal, but she wants the time she spends with him to last forever. Youth is truly a time of oversized emotions and realizations, but it only seems like that because it’s the first few times a young person experiences those things. There’s going to be a lot more crying by the end of Oregairu’s final season.

Heh.

Yes, Hachiman, why do you always have to make things so complicated? Iroha doesn’t like Hachiman’s choices of hot drinks. It’s like he forced her to choose the red bean soup can. Iroha explained to Hachiman that she’s fixated on the prom because she wanted to do something special for Shizuka-sensei after she found out the student council president would have to make a farewell speech for her. This was probably going to happen at the official Senior Farewell event too, and most of Iroha’s friends are seniors, so all those motivations came together. Nooooo, I want to believe Shizuka-sensei is staying at the school!

Another chance to choose things. Hachiman got an idea about how to deal with the PTO. Oregairu likes to beat the audience over the head with its metaphors. “When given a choice, something must be chosen.” Hachiman may be onto something, since the PTO wants the kids to “voluntarily” give up on the prom, but if they have two competing proposals, there obviously isn’t any appetite for giving up. Hachiman will make the PTO choose Yukino’s plan to avoid his.

Yui needs an explanation. Hachiman isn’t helping Yukino but competing against her. Huh? Nice. Yui says he’s sometimes incredibly dumb, but that’s wrong. Sometimes he’s incredibly smart! So Yui will be his fake helper for his fake prom committee. When did Hachiman become a great artist? Perhaps he only knows how to draw ice cream? Yui’s takeaway is that she can have two ice creams if she chooses the one that’s only half sugar.

But who will help plan a prom whose success depends on failing the approval process? Cute scene. Yui makes Hachiman eat his tomatoes. Look! They know three other people! Saki always cracks me up with how tsundere she is when it comes to Hachiman. Saika is the ultimate trap bro. Chuuni Zaimokuza is totally gung-ho for an anti-prom. What happens if the PTO approves Hachiman’s plan over Yukino? Plot twist! I doubt that, but anything is possible with a motivated Zaimokuza.

Ooh. Hachiman and Yui share a net café room for “research.” Oh, it’s prom research. They can have the prom at “Dizknee.” They have no budget though… Oh ho! Hachiman admires “Gaha-mama!” Genetics are amazing! More of the “fake” theme from Yui as she pretends to sleep on Hachiman’s shoulder. Even though they’re only spending time together for the sake of another girl, she still wishes the moments could last forever. Strong wistful feelings here. “Make the lie true” is a not uncommon adolescent wish.
