Tour Tidbit du Jour - 7/25/2019

Tour de France 2019 - 7/25/2019 - Stage 18 - Embrun / Valloire (208 km) - Romain BARDET (AG2R LA MONDIALE) - With the polka dot jersey © A.S.O./Pauline BALLET

The King of the Mountain points are classified differently in this year's Tour compared to past editions. There are no category 5 climbs and the 4th category climbs only offer 1 point. Category 1 climbs are only 10 points and the HC (hors catégorie - above category) climbs are 20 points. Also, summit finishes don't offer the double point bonus any more either. Instead, only summits or passes above 2000 meters will get double points. Strategically, almost all of the HC climbs are above 2000 meters in the Alps during a three stage run at the end of the three weeks, the real King of the Mountains will have to find breakaways here and not care about winning stages.
