Julian Alaphilippe became the 36th Frenchman to wear the maillot jaune on Bastille Day, July 14th, the French independence day. The last French rider to do so was Tony Gallopin in 2014, who was also the last Frenchman to even wear the yellow jersey before Alaphilippe took it on after his victory on Stage 3 this year.
