Rei likes to project an image of being cool and collected, but that gets difficult in the face of Chutaro plushies.
Both and Rei and Maya like to walk past a certain friendly Akita dog, but only Maya gets to pet him since Rei just can't show her cuddly side in public. These two didn't recognize each other, yet.
Nejiusa got sad that the other girls thought the not-Hamtaro characters were cuter than he was. Rei gave a non-committal defense of his cuddlesome qualifications, which led to an overly familiar gesture of gratitude.
Maya and the Black Elite infected the world of not-Hamtaro, er, Chutaro, and it was here that Rei let loose her love of all things cute. Maya played on Rei's complex about keeping her cuteness cherishing in the closet, but saving Chutaro's world of kawaii outweighed her fragile self-image. Maya should stop being so shocked she keeps losing this way.
