life.08 - "A Girl's Heart is Complicated"

Hmm.

Now I remember part of what made the anime only plot so annoying from the previous season. I just didn't know that the original storyline made the whole "say my name, say my name" plot point even more annoying. Good job on incorporating that part of the story into the anime, but seeing it here in the faithfully adapted anime for the second time is going to be hard to get through. At least we don't have Issei getting cuckolded by his doppelganger, which was just stupidly terrible.

One thing I've always appreciated about this series is that Issei isn't the totally oblivious harem king and how he actually does express physical affection for his harem members. Unfortunately, he still has that harem king personality flaw of not expressing his own emotions clearly. The great misunderstanding here, as I see it, is that Issei fell in love with Rias before he died and became a devil and that his ideal woman has always been called "club president" in his mind. Rias doesn't know that because Issei never told her. Also, Issei doesn't feel worthy enough to call Rias by her first name, which is one of the reasons he wants to become a splendid devil, so that he can be on the same class level as Rias where he'll feel comfortable calling her by her name. But she doesn't know that either, because Issei has never told her.

So here we are. Several episodes before the end of the seasons will have this dance of "say my name, say my name" before we get some huge dramatic catharsis which also saves the day. I'll just have to grit my teeth to get through this until that point.

Kiba and Issei are just casually talking about tactics and strategy while devastating magical attacks boom in the background.

Ravel suggests using Issei's cannon attack as a targeted buff too so opponents can't tell if he's going to help his team or blast the enemy.

Rias says to watch out for unexpected rule changes to favor short bouts because the Rating Game is a spectacle too.

I'm seeing lots of off-spec faces and bodies for the animation. They're saving their time budget for the big battles during the tournament.

Hee. Koneko still prefers Issei's lap. Gasper goes straight to the Amazon box.

Harem dynamics don't like a King who's "kind" to everyone. Issei better set up a hierarchy soon. Rias wants him to say her name! This is now officially a Big Deal.

Saji has a nice harem going too, but it looks like those girls belong to the Student Council President.

This press conference is a good chance to see Sairaorg's chess pieces. Interesting to see how the queens are closest to the dais.

And all the questions are about the Oppai Dragon! And whether he's going to suck on Rias' breasts!

The tone of voice for these reporters is so annoyed, as if it's Issei's fault they have to ask these scandalous questions.

And we didn't get any screen time for Sairaorg's team. We'll have to see their introductions during the match.

Ah. The sauna room is the location for the ACTION scene. Rias wants to get pushed down, but she's doing the pushing.

Issei no baka! That's why you get blueballed.

Ha! Issei is still giving manly advice to Gasper in his trap clothes. It's the usual Japanese chauvinism about protecting girls and not making them cry.

Trust issues right before the match between Rias and Issei is not good.

Azazel drops the audience some knowledge about these Rating Games. Emperor Belial is the overall Champion and he's the Bael Family adviser. Azazel is the Gremory adviser.

These players on Sairaorg's side don't have any official data. Lots of surprises coming.

Meanwhile, the occult club has cultural festival preparations to make.

Ravel Mama! And she mentions Issei specifically. Fu fu fu, ara ara maa! The harem isn't going to like that. "We can also hope for good news," she says. Hint, hint!

Issei is so clueless and he's pissing off the entire harem.

Well, there's big drama over Issei saying "President" instead of Rias name. Somebody please explain to him why everyone agrees he did a bad thing. Dude needs help.

As for the ACTION scene, it was all about Issei almost losing his virginity in the sauna.
