Episode 11 - "Her Love Story"
Hmm.
First off, this is the kind of episode I've been waiting to see since they teased us with the opening scene in the first episode. We had Negi sneezing! We had Asuna smacking! We saw Chamo censoring! We had girls fighting naked! And we had Asuna calling Negi an idiot! This is the sequel to Negima! I've been waiting to see.
The question about where Asuna has been was answered too. She's still in place on Mars holding the worlds together, but at least her mind gets to run free with some help from the Life Maker and Touta's genetics.
Hopefully, in the last episode, we'll find out why Nagi's crew of Jack Rakan and Albireo Imma are following Negi along with Yue and Nodoka. I wonder if they were taken by Ialda Baoth and placed in a phantasmagoria of their own, and now they can't tell when they're placed into the real world.
Another question is why Ialda Baoth needs Touta so badly. I've already speculated that Negi's self-sacrificial tendencies are forcing the issue, but perhaps there's a different reason. I still can't believe these good guys would be hanging out with Cutlass or how Yue could be so callous against Touta. Also, can they explain what those crack lines on Negi's face are supposed to be? They're not whiskers or wrinkles, so what are they?
I have to laugh at Eva's love story progression. Eva is plenty faithful, with only loving three men in 700 years! But, each man has been younger than the last. First it was Nagi, then 10 year old Negi, and now 2 year old Touta. Well, his body is nominally 14 years old, while Eva's is similarly aged, so maybe it evens out?
Heh.
It's been so long. Magical Detective Yue, the All-Knowing. Mind Reader Nodoka, the All Seeing. Playing bad guys? Noooo!
Nodoka is wearing the same space suit that Negi is wearing.
Ah hahahahaha! Negi sneezes and takes out the whole stadium! He has grown more powerful.
I like how the three veterans expected what happened next and put up barriers, but Cutlass did not. Yukihime should have known too.
So, sometimes Negi is there and sometimes it's the Life Maker in control. Maybe.
Touta is the successful 72nd attempt at cloning a hybrid of Negi and Asuna. Well, poor Asuna has been frozen all this time, but why hadn't Negi settled down? I mean, sixty years running around Mars and Earth is a long time without some companionship.
Still, 72 tries. Why so desperate?
I appreciate all the Chamo censorship and even the cameo in the flashbacks with Albireo, but where is that little ermine? And couldn't we get a proper introduction?
Ah man. Seeing all these things that never got animated from the original story. I really wanted to see Negi versus Taka-hottie, er Takahata-sensei, but I guess that will never happen now.
Eva warned Negi - "Be prepared for compensation when you ask an evil mage for help." She took a kiss from him, but did Negi try to bargain with Ialda Baoth?
This phantasmagoria stuff is as confusing here as in the original story. I won't even try to tease out the logical bits that make sense.
Yeah! Asuna! And she's still a brute! And she knows everyone's weaknesses because she was always the ultimate partner. Pretty nifty to have her on your side. It also shows that Negi lost a bit of his sense of direction without her.
Next time - Touta needs to buy 37 seconds against Negi for... something good!
Movie poster style for the end card.
