The Giro started in the Netherlands this year, with a short time trial for Stage 1 in Apeldoorn. Fittingly, the Dutchman Tom Dumoulin won the stage and holds every jersey except the King of the Mountains. As the first three stages will be in the Netherlands, the Giro d'Italia would be better named the Giro dei Paesi Bassi until Stage 4 starting in Catanzaro.
