The young time trialist from Luxembourg, Bob Jungels, had a dream Giro, wearing the pink jersey for a few days and leading the Young Rider's competition once the Giro landed in Italy from the Netherlands. He placed a very respectable 6th place overall at 8:31 back, but his lead over the next highest placed young rider was much more comfortable after the last climbing stage. He bested Sebastian Henao of Team Sky by 29 minutes and 38 seconds.
