Episode 12 - "I Won't Give Up This Spot"
Heh.
So, this whole series was about Matsuoka's abandonment issues. Ah well. That's very much like any other BL Manga.
Wah. The closest we'll get to seeing the TGC rematch with Hoshishiro was in the opening credits.
Tachibana losing over and over to Matsuoka was just like her friend Kanae losing to her in that sprint competition. I guess Tachibana was just like a girl in using a spectacle to force a realization or emotional conversation. Girls are sneaky that way.
Ha! Tachibana didn't say how many times she would need to lose before she won a match against Matsuoka.
Yukimura was much more patient with Matsuoka than Tachibana was.
Still, being a little pissed about that guy caring more about the guys who left instead of the guy who stayed was well warranted.
One of the questions almost answered was what the beef with Midori was besides losing at TGC all the time. He left Toy Gun Gun first. The remaining question is why he left.
Uh oh. Mattsun felt al little doki doki over Tachibana holding his hand.
Not quite the same reaction when Yukimura showed a little bromance affection. Maybe Tachibana looked just like his mom at that moment?
Okay, so Tachibana didn't tell the dudes she was a girl, but since the manga is still ongoing, the storyline didn't get to that point yet. Having Matsuoka start a crush on her in the last episode is good enough and adds a kyaa-kyaa moment for the fans.
Final Thoughts.
Third year in a row watching an anime about airsoft guns. Will next year keep the streak alive? Aoharu x Kikanjuu had some fun aspects, especially the chibi forms for added comedy and Midori's panda obsession being used to explain things. The hook, of course, was gender bending a typical Boys' Love manga story into a comedy with a mistaken perception.
Would I recommend this anime to anyone? I got into it almost exclusively because the voice actor for Tachibana was the same one for Tsugumi in the Nisekoi series. They were similar characters with similar personality traits but not similar, ah, body shapes. This was basically a flat-chested Tsugumi vehicle with fake guns.
As for the general aspects of Aoharu, I thought the action was well animated and choreographed, but there was not enough of it. The BL clichés used for comedy was spot on and good for a chuckle. However, the teasing of whether Tachibana would ever reveal her feminine side to the guys dragged on. We didn't even get a little flash of her in a dress or anything. So, I would only recommend watching this if you were big into airsoft, Tsugumi and BL manga clichés.
Personally, I enjoyed the earlier episodes, but started feeling a little reluctant to watch the later episodes because of the unresolved gender confession. The series ended on a "good enough" note, so I doubt there will be any more seasons unless the storyline features more of the girly girls. It was an okay Summer anime, but a bit too niche for casual anime fans.
