10 Second Anime - Aoharu x Kikanjuu - Episode 8

Midori takes on Matsuoka and Yukimura. Tachibana is at a disadvantage against Team Hoshishiro.

Episode 8 - "What Controls Your Mind Now"

Heh.

Oh, we got some backstory now between Midori and Matsuoka now. What we're missing is what caused the falling out between two guys who used to play together. Midori, after all this time, still takes the role of the mentor, though.

Calling it right now - Toy Gun Gun lost because Yukimura didn't follow the plan. Even if Matsuoka still lost to Midori, at least he kept him pinned down while allowing Tachibana to beat Fujimon. If Yukimura had kept targeting Ichi, she may not have had the time to set up the kill shot on Tachibana.

I noticed that Midori was very good at dodging Tachibana's melee attacks, but he didn't go on offense. By choice, or because he couldn't?

This show derives much of its humor by referencing Boys Love tropes. Supposedly.

Hmm. Not seeing it...

Midori's whole deal for competing in the TGC is his need to crush other people's hope. That explains his frustrating fighting style of dodging attacks at the last moment and then overwhelming the opponent in a psychologically provocative manner. Defeating Tachibana from afar by someone else's gun while outing her gender played into that exactly.

Bye, Ichi. I guess we won't see her in competition for a couple of episodes.

Tachibana almost looked like a girl with her wet hair from the rain.

Hmm.

I recall Midori telling Tachibana that Matsuoka's and Yukimura's version of their last defeat was missing key details. I wonder if part of why Matsuoka doesn't want a girl on the team is because Midori forced him to shoot her, his own teammate. Midori used Matsuoka's own gun to defeat him this time around, also making sure to cover his mouth so he couldn't acknowledge the hit immediately. Midori used all those special rules in the TGC to accentuate his psychological tactics.

Thankfully, this show ended the match pretty quickly. The storm was just a dramatic device and the inexperienced team rightly lost to the defending champions. This means my prediction that we would have time in the season for defeat, depression, regrouping and redemption is still on track. This also means that the scenes in the opening credits show off the rematch instead of this initial meeting. Good. I expect Toy Gun Gun to formulate strategy based not only on their strengths but also on their opponent's characteristics. There was none of that in this round at all.

Tachibana learned an important lesson - don't let strange men feel you up while shopping. Also, maybe telling the truth about your gender to your new friends might be a good thing. At the very least, Yukimura will stop trying to give her porn.
