There are some new nicknames in the Tour peloton this year, notably Nairo Quintana is being called "the scarab" because the beetle is able to lift dozens of times its own weight, presumably referencing the Hercules beetle, native to South America and Central America. I wonder what happened between his Giro victory last year and this year. He was dubbed "Il Condor" during the Italian Grand Tour.
There are many species of scarabs, but the one revered by the ancient Egyptians is known by its less prestigious activities - the dung beetle.
