Takeo celebrates Rinko's birthday with their date, but she encourages him to stay with Suna at the hospital during his father's surgery.
Heh.
This is the second episode where Suna's little figure has been added to the cake in the opening credits. All three of them are on there now, showing that this isn't going to be just a romance comedy, but a story about friends.
I almost shed a man tear at the beginning of the episode when Takeo couldn't express in words about what Suna was going through. The bro fist said it beautifully.
We still saw many cutesy date-type things, as only Takeo and Rinko could do them. Takeo juggled bowling bowls and Rinko barely got the lightest ball to make it all the way to the end of the lane.
I loved the use of of Takeo's big red shirt to show what he was thinking.
Suna is usually the source of these floating words, but since he was at the hospital, Takeo's chest took up the slack. Of course, they said what he was actually saying instead of the thoughts that polite people like Suna keep to themselves.
Spit it out, Doc! Is he going to be okay?
Takeo had the right response here. Say the important news first! Even Suna's mom and sister Ai ended up shaking this guy around.
Ai still has the hots for our manly man.
My heart swelled a little bit when Suna and Takeo found Rinko at the hospital. Rinko's not just Takeo's girlfriend, but she's becoming Suna's friend too. These are such nice people.
Of course they want Suna to be happy with a girlfriend too.
Maybe a girlfriend like his best friend is not the best idea.
I liked how glad Rinko was that Takeo didn't have a girlfriend when she first met him. She's definitely not some average girl with average tastes. She's so blinded by her attraction to Takeo she can't conceive that other girls have an aversion to him. Well, except for Suna's sister.
Hmm.
Because Suna was handling his father's collapse by himself, there was no one there to comfort him. At the very least, he didn't want to trouble Takeo's happiness with his problems. But with Takeo offering the emotional support just with this physical presence, he was able to open up about his irrational guilt with finding his father collapsed after he came home a little late. Maybe that's why he couldn't tell Takeo about it, because he felt responsible for why his father was in the hospital. Suna, as smart as he is, is still a kid too, so Takeo's outside perspective relieving him of that guilt was something he needed to hear.
This show could have taken a dark turn with the death of Suna's dad, but I'm glad it didn't. Not that the characters couldn't handle it, as we've seen with how much Takeo has put up with over his size and how Suna has seen all this while at his side. Ultimately, this show is about the great friendship of Suna and Takeo and how a new friend is joining them, one who is also a romantic partner for Takeo. It's good to keep the focus on this trio in as light-hearted a fashion as possible to make the comedy flow more easily. It would be interesting to see a similar story as a drama, but that's not this story.
The romantic comedic adventures of three nice people continue as we see how they react to what the world throws at them. I never know what's going to happen next when a chapter ends because the previews are so vague. I'm not complaining; I'm just saying I can't wait until the next piece of the story.
