As many of the World Tour teams embrace the concept of "marginal gains," time and money has not only been spent on equipment and training techniques, but also on the logistics and comforts before and after the races. Team chefs and cooks traveling with the soigneurs is now a regular thing, as has some riders bringing their own mattresses to the hotels to make sure there's even less of a chance of sore backs from a bad night's sleep. Team Sky with Richie Porte has taken these ideas to the next level - Porte sleeps in his own RV near the hotels where his teammates rest. Now, not even the stress of moving his gear from bus to room can affect his rest and recovery between stages.
