Koufuku Graffiti - Episode 11
The gourmet girls study for entrance exams and enjoy comfort food and good luck meals.
Heh.
It's almost time for the high school entrance exams and Ryou started feeling the pressure. She startles easily, even from things she sees in nightmares.
Ryou really misses her mom. She's always sending Japanese cuisine back in big boxes from the foreign countries where she and her husband are stationed. As for what Ryou's parents do, we're getting vague and interesting hints very similar to what Shiina's family takes care of. According to Kirin's mom, a small city would collapse without them and all Ryou says is that they're "two of the most important people in the world." Sounds way more interesting than forensic accounting.
Maybe Kirin should be Ryou's bodyguard!
She's got the physical ability and freakish strength necessary for the job, so why not?
Hmm, Kirin's not the only one with freakish strength.
She didn't show any of that during the sports festival. Maybe Ryou is just clumsy and has no stamina.
I'm beginning to think Ryou should sit on the other side of wherever she's used to sitting.
She could get a crick in her neck from all that head turning.
Somebody's happy to get a care package from Mommy.
Ryou has rules for ramen in a box. It's a late-night snack.
Kirin, it's a late-night snack!
Hoh. Ryou has an embarrassed talkative side too.
We haven't had an extreme Kirin close-up in a while.
Okay, we're full up for the rest of the season.
Nice. Even Kirin is holding up dishes to the camera now.

This episode was actually two mini-episodes. The first dealt with ramen, uh, studying for entrance exams. The second part dealt with pork cutlet sandwiches, I mean, praying for luck at the local shrine. It appears that Shiina needs no such luck.
No fair! She took an early exam and was already accepted! She's the goddess of success! Kirin and Ryou need them summadat!
It turned out that Tsuyuko the maid had chosen pork cutlet sandwiches specifically because it's a homonym for "victory" in Japanese (katsu - カツサンド pork cutlet sandwich and 克つ to gain victory). Also, the hour of praying over the sandwiches was supposed to help too.
Shiina decided to do the same thing for Ryou and Kirin. Yay! Everybody's cooking for each other now, not just Ryou for everybody else.
And let's have one last look at our modest goddess of success.
Hmm.
The theme of this week's meals were comfort and support. Ryou was really missing her parents and grandma because when you're studying by yourself, you need to take a break and make a home-made snack yourself, instead of a loved one just coming in with onigiri or hot ramen. Having Kirin make the ramen for Ryou gave her house that feeling of home, so it's not surprising she woke from her doze thinking her mom was there.
The other meal was the good luck lunch. Tsuyuko made one for Shiina, infused with good feelings and puns, so Shiina felt like she had to do the same for her good friends too. Kirin and Ryou were so shocked by the kind gesture, they thought all their good luck was used up! Shiina didn't want to admit it was out of character for her, but she thought better of it and decided to do an hour of praying for good fortune, just in case. Such a nice girl, that Shiina, even if she's mysterious and has a cool exterior.
The season's almost over, but I have a feeling our heroines are going to make it into the high school of their choice and meet Yuki the downstairs neighbor there. The only question left is which dish will appear on Ryou's desk calendar - the ramen or pork cutlet sandwiches? I'm leaning toward the ramen.
