The fleet girls transfer to a forward base and meet the powerful new ship Yamato there. Cute girls do cute things on a tropical island resort.

Heh.

Episode 8? Beach episode? Of course!

 

For girls who are always in the water, it's kind of weird that their beach outfits are swimsuits, but that's fanservice anime logic for you.

 

You can tell the relative "ages" of the ship girls by the fanciness of their swimsuits. Fubuki and her friends - age appropriate gym one piece swimsuits. Nagato and Yamato - way, way, way too fancy.

 

The Yamato character mirrors the history of the actual WWII era Yamato battleship. So powerful, yet so expensive to operate, it was barely used in the war.

 

How much fuel does Yamato need to move around? Just standing on the water for a few minutes with Fubuki gives her Akagi level hunger pangs.

Ship girls want most to travel the seas and do their duty, but Yamato's status kept her confined to the forward base, where she spent a lot of time fixing up the accommodations. So much so, her little chibi minions have turned into maids! But don't call Yamato a hotel. She's got a thing about that.

 

Fubuki wanted to give Yamato a taste of the open ocean, but without wasting resources, so she hit upon the idea of just towing her out there. Ha! She needed some help from Yuudachi and Mutsuki to get her out there.

 

Blammo! She's got big guns alright.

 

Anyway, that was the plot. How about that?

The rest of the show was pure cute girls doing cute things on the beach and in the spa.

 

We had Kongou doing a Ramune commercial.

 



We had Ooi going gaga over Kitakami's swimsuit.

Atago and Takao got to run on the beach in their age appropriate fancy beach attire.

With all that implies...

Nagato finally got to relax.

But then she had to show off her cute side.

And this started a nice joke and callback with Mutsu.

Mutsu DID see Nagato's cute side in the spa! Mutsu sees EVERYTHING Nagato does...

Of course, the fanciest swimsuits had to be worn by Nagato and Yamato.

I was very disappointed with lack of Mutsu bikini time. Well, this show isn't over yet.

Now, enjoy these full-length images of the hostess of this southern island. Remember, she is not a hotel!

Hmm.

For the overall plot, Nagato and Mutsu confirmed the enemy knew of their plans, and even though their attack was repelled, they lost Shoukaku the carrier from traveling with the fleet as it moves forward. Kaga will rejoin Fubuki's mobile group, but they're still down a carrier to defend their territory with stretched supply lines. Nagato called it tactical victory, but strategic defeat.

 

Kaga and Zuikaku had a nice moment, but they still can't be totally open with their new closeness. The other girls know what's up, though, so there were smiles all around.

 

Next time, I am not playing the "ppoi" drinking game, not with Yuudachi supposedly being the focus. A man has to know his limitations.
