Break shortened week means only 101 miles, but the next building block is progressing nicely. I still haven't made much of an improvement over last year, at least from my hazy memories of my times on my flat course, but that's why I'm recording a bunch of new data. In 2010, I rode that Rose Bowl Laps course 99 times, and only broke into the 52 minute mark twice, both times assisted by a paceline of motorcycles. Last year, I broke into the 51 minute mark by following a fast dude for one lap. This year, I've broken into the 51 minute mark during a peak week by doing 3 flat-out sprint intervals in a row. That hurt. However, so far this year, I've ridden the flat course 67 times, and broken the 52 minute mark 12 times, all on my own. Some of those times I was the one dragging people behind me, so that was also a nice ego boost.
Back in April, I rode my Santa Fe Dam Loop, so I was curious to see how much I've improved over the last 3 months. 7 minutes over 35 miles amounts to about a 6% improvement. That's pretty good for 13 weeks of work.
