Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei - Episode 18
Tatsuya cold-bloodedly takes out the Japanese branch of the No-Head Dragon. First Magic School wins the overall with a display of magic might from Juumonji. Everyone dances.
Geh.
I did not expect the raid on the No-Head Dragons to be so cold-blooded. It was like Tatsuya was squishing ants. And when one of those ants dared to look back at him with a sniper scope, Tatsuya's little smirk was downright scary.Did Tatsuya ask Fujibayashi to come with him only because she has a car and he can't drive yet? Or was she there to put him down in case he went berserk?
The assassination scene reminded me very much of the Taken movies. No remorse, no second-guessing, just everybody who deserves to die dies.
That one No-Head Dragon pleading for his life because they didn't kill anybody was being a bit disingenuous. They had planned on killing a couple hundred, and only the Original BAMFsters stood in that one Generator's way.
Heh.
Generator: "We can't attack him. He's too far away."No-Head Dragon: "Don't talk back!"
BAMF doesn't care about lives taken or not, the No-Head Dragons pissed him off, and they have to die because of that. Of course, the only thing that could piss Tatsuya off is someone threatening his sister. That's about the only emotion he needs to be a bodyguard, and conveniently it's the only one he has.
Forget the No-Head Dragons' headquarters, the real battlefield was the dance floor.
Kyaa! Honoka's so bold! She approached first, and got him to ask for the dance. Well, with a little help from Erika. I liked how sad he looked because he didn't know how to help someone who seemed to be needing something very badly from him. Squashing some guy's eye in a sniper scope from thousands of meters away is no problem for our BAMF, but trying to figure out a girl wants him to ask her to dance is way above his pay grade.
Tatsuya had a nice scene with Masaki, showing no hard feelings, and even getting a funny reaction when he realized Tatsuya and Miyuki were siblings.
With Honoka going first, each of Miyuki's friends gets a chance to dance.
Mayumi takes her turn too, but Miyuki can't keep her attention away from her brother. Maybe she knows what the implications are for the designated heir of a clan to be seen in a friendly manner with someone of the opposite sex.
Of course, that cuts both ways, as Miyuki is dancing with the designated heir of the Ichijo clan.
It seemed like Tatsuya's military commander and the head patriarch were negotiating for control of Tatsuya. Masaki may be the equivalent of an armored division, but Tatsuya is considered to be a strategic missile. That he came from Yotsubas concerns the other clans greatly, since they seem to have been more serious in advancing their combat power versus the other clans, who seem to enjoy playing more politics.
Hmm.
With the political power of the 10 clans tied in with magic power, it was a big deal for a supposed non-clan member to defeat a scion. Since the upper echelons of the military know Tatsuya's origin, and so does the patriarch, the result was not a surprise. But to the clans, they needed a demonstration that they still have magic power as well, so it fell to Mayumi to ask Juumonji to make one. Defeating the other team in the final of Monolith Code all by himself seems to have placated the clans, and serve as a warning to the military who might want to scoop up a talented no-name. Too bad for them the Military already scooped him up, and that he's a close relation to the heir of one of the clans. It's interesting to see Juumonji taking his clan duties seriously in trying to recruit Tatsuya back into the clans through marriage, to Mayumi no less. He had fought so hard to get out of one, and now the other clans want him back in. We're starting to get hints of why Tatsuya wants to accrue so much offensive magic capability. Not only to challenge the Yotsubas, which are already the most powerful clan in terms of magic ability, but the entire clan system as well. If the clan system continues as it is, one day Miyuki will be forced into a political marriage, and this will go against the siblings' sense of self-determination.
The arc is over, but we've already seen what the big deal will be for the next arc: Sorcery Boosters, which use the actual brains of magic users. The No-Head Dragons were traffickers in this technology, so Tatsuya's personal vendetta served to gather the names of the gang members and slow the growth of the black market in Japan. It looks like Tatsuya is done playing around with high schoolers for his BAMF needs, after already graduating to gang leaders and their Generators. The Yokohama Disturbance appears to be the arc to take us to the end of the season. Much more BAMF'ing left to do!
