Locodol - Episode 3

The third member of the Locodol group enters the stage: Nagarekawa mascot Uogokoro-kun. He flips. It rains, but the show must go on.

Heh.

Uogokoro is a compound word combining fish (魚, uo) and heart or spirit (心, kokoro). Uogokoro-kun represents the Spirit of Fish.

If the mascot becomes popular, the local government can totally make up for the PR costs in merchandising and licensing the image. Do your best, Uogokoro-kun!

I did not expect that floppy costume to handle flipping so well.

Neither did Yukari or Nanako!

There was quite the range of emotions in seeing such a small, cute girl inside the costume. Yukari did her own kind of flipping in seeing new little sister material.

Meanwhile, Nanako had already been feeling inadequate next to Yukari, but to find out what Yui had been hiding under the exterior of Ugokoro, well that was too much to handle.

I like how quick Yukari is on her feet while on stage. The costume's voice pickup system still wasn't working right when Uogokoro made his debut, but to make the kids feel better, she just said he had a cold. At the second event after the rain came, the voice synthesizer malfunctioned again, and the kids explained to themselves that he got his cold back because of the rain. That was a nice callback.

The girls, after deciding to embrace the Nagarekawa Girls name, started coming up with some professional idol moves.

Oh, they finally got real costumes too. Too bad they had to rip them off the first time they wore them. Too bad for them, not so bad for the young men in the audience.

Uogokoro-kun got screen wipe time this week.

Both times. I guess he's trying to catch up to Yukari and Nanako as quickly as possible. And themed eye catch continues.

All about the Uogokoro-kun! I think people would actually buy those baseball caps...

Geh.

Even with rain, the show must go on, and now we know why Yukari and Nanako were wearing their bathing suits under their outfits.

I'm sure those guys are hoping it rains at every outdoor concert.

The Nagarekawa Bump was much more effective this way.

Hmm.

A nice thing this show is tackling is how Nanako's friends are treating this part-time job of hers. They had just seen her on those cable TV commercials and some pictures on the news, but it's a totally different experience seeing Nanako do a live event. You could see how impressed they were that the crowd genuinely liked Nagarekawa Girls, knew their names, and laughed at their skits. Nanako may have started doing the locodol thing to earn some money after she got tricked into it by her uncle, but having her friends approve, and even enjoy themselves at her events will build a lot of confidence, and make the whole civic promotions gig more personal. I expect to see Yui's friends start coming to see Uogokoro flip too.
