Akame ga Kill! - Episode 5
Tatsumi learns of Sheele's background when she takes on training duties. A powerful general will come back to the capital to target Night Raid. A young imperial officer seeks revenge on Ogre's killer.
Heh.
We learn a little more about how the Emperor Tools work, and the most important thing is that the Tool must be compatible with its user. Also, a user can only use one Tool at a time, since they kind of "choose" the user.Najenda makes bad puns. Well, nobody's perfect.
Also, all the girls of Night Raid like to eat a lot of meat. Hurr.
Sheele is the epitome of the megane airhead. The only time she isn't clumsy is when she's intent on killing someone. Otherwise, she's so clumsy she has no other duties at the Night Raid headquarters, because she causes more problems instead of helping.
Don't mess with Akame's meat.
Tatsumi still has trouble mourning his friends, and just when he thinks he's accepted their deaths, he goes back into bargaining mode when he finds out how powerful the Emperor Tools are. The other assassins quickly disabuse him of the idea that they can use any of them to bring them back to life.
Oh no. Sheele death flag popped up when she comforted Tatsumi. She said all she can do is be the trainer that goes easy on him. And when he doesn't need someone to go easy on him anymore...
Gentle Sheele gets the Shoujo artistic treatment.
That puppy Emperor Tool is going to turn into something bad, which we saw in the Big Book o' Emperor Tools, and he sure is protective of genki girl Seryu. Too bad she hides a darkness that got developed under her captain, who happened to be Ogre. Now she pledges revenge against his killer, who she just held hands with. This show always shows the consequences of murder.
Leone is very popular in the slums district, for being friendly, for her massages, and for her penchant for grifting money and running up bar tabs.
You better run, Tatsumi! She's still mai waifu, though.
What kind of meat is the prime minister always gnawing on? He carries it around like a handkerchief, and even gives it that frustrated bite and stretch we see in anime.
Geh.
Wow. Just stick a sharp edge in Sheele's hand and fill her with murderous intent, and all that clumsiness just disappears. The big character in the window of her friend's house, before her ex-boyfriend tried to kill her, means "Good Fortune." Irony or dark humor? Why not both.
That General Esdeath is bad news. She makes the Hero of the North lick her boot naked, and his spirit was obviously broken beforehand too. I guess she's the one responsible for taking Najenda's eye, and maybe her arm.
We saw the serial killer use the unknown fifth power for his Emperor Tool, but I like how Tatsumi used it better.
I take it those girls aren't hiding any weapons in their underwear...
Hmm.
I liked how the assassins got very serious about Tatsumi wishing there was an Emperor Tool that could raise the dead. I'm sure part of it was thinking through the consequences of all the dead people they've seen coming back to life, but also part of it was their own assassin nature. Clinging to life too much will make you hesitate in a fight and sap your courage so much that you'll never act, since you'll keep looking for the safe path. And I liked Akame's very logical explanation of why there isn't an Emperor Tool to be found with those powers, even if they haven't found and described all 48: the original emperor died. For someone so devoted to keeping his nation strong forever, he surely would have made an Emperor Tool that would preserve his life as well. But he's dead. You only get one life in the world of Akame ga Kill, and when it's over, it's over.
This also ties in well with one of this show's themes of showing the consequences of taking a life violently. The world moves on, and people deal with death differently. A major driver of the plot is vengeance, and we'll see how Seryu will react to discovering Tatsumi as her teacher's killer, and what that weird looking puppy thing is going to do when it becomes the monster we saw in the Big Book o' Emperor Tools. I have a feeling Sheele is going to be involved those events, death flag or not.
