Majimoji Rurumo - Episode 3

Rurumo starts working in the school cafeteria, clumsily. The Occult Club president takes an interest in Rurumo. A new girl takes an interest in Kouta?

Heh.

We had comedy in the classic sense. Misunderstandings and narrative misdirection lead to a comedic twist. Why exactly Tanako likes the President is a mystery, but playing off Kouta's misperception that she was interested in him was great fun. Adding a spark of jealousy because the President is interested in Rurumo's deep knowledge of magic, and we get desperate situations with desperate comedy.

Floating orange in water for the win.

Kitty dumping a basket for the win.

Aw. Rurumo's sense of independence makes her want to pay Kouta back for the nice dress.

Can you tell this story is several years old?

Nothing wrong with a Death Note reference. I just wonder what Kouta thinks writing girls' names in this book will make them do. Apparently nothing, so far.

Chiro sure is taking advantage of Kouta's love of stray animals.

This is another episode with a random shot of a police car passing by the Shibaki house. Perhaps not so random, eh? It's got to be the policewoman shown in the opening credits making sure the Ero King is under control.

Meh.

Rurumo is clumsy. How clumsy? Spreads arms. Even Rurumo knows how clumsy she is. Putting in so many scenes of her clumsiness began to wear on me. Let's have her develop her motor skills already.

Hmm.

Stubbornness mixed with a lack of growth should not be mistaken for the virtue of perseverance. We got some allusions to Rurumo being the slowest learner of her peers, and she mentions that she persists because it's a punishment she placed on herself. That could easily turn into obsession, and the sanest response would be to do something else. Her contract with Kouta might be the something else she needs to move on from this punishment, where she learns to function without magic, which in turn makes her much more adept at learning it. I hope that's where this story goes, because seeing her flounder around and not developing hits one my own pet peeves of people repeating their mistakes over and over.

At least this show has all sorts of characters to add to the comedy, and I can look forward to them bouncing off Rurumo's character, and Kouta reacting to it all. Maybe Rurumo can be his own catalyst to escape his Ero King reputation.
