Rail Wars! - Episode 3

Takayama's old classmate Mari joins the train station staff. Her friend is kidnapped, but she uses her train otaku listening skills to help find her.

Geh.

Next episode is the beach episode already?

Nice water pistol, Sakurai...

Yes, this show is about Trains iN Anime!

Lack of Koumi last episode needed reparations this week. We see Gonou keep mobilizing her SWAT guys, but we never see them in action. Soon, I guess.

Heh.

Mari and Takayama must have made quite the pair in their Railways Trade High School. He's the train geek who knows all the different engines and she's the nerd who knows what they all sound like.

Mari and Koumi greeted each other as if Mari was the childhood friend approving of the new girlfriend. All aboard the OTP ship!

Koumi is really smart. This was established in the first episode, but here we have her speed reading and remembering her English!

I love how all the other Japanese people scurry away quickly. They have compulsory English lessons over there all the way through high school, but most of them promptly forget everything as soon as they graduate. They can still read some English words, though, as you can see from how often they use English in their titles and advertising. Just don't ask them to understand speech and then to speak it.

The other girl in the opening credits is featured next week. Yay.

Hmm.

I wonder how long this on-the-job training assignment is supposed to last. Mari mentions how much Takayama wants to be a train driver, and she was assigned to be a waitress at Tokyo Station a month after Takayama got there.

Nana still likes her judgment call in making Takayama her lieutenant for the Public Safety Crew, and he and the others must have been assigned to her after their exploits in tracking down the purse snatchers in the first episode. But his team was also the only one to reach speeds of over 100 km/h in the coal-fired engine practical. Shouldn't that count for something in his preference to be an engineer? Nana and Gonou must see another path for his abilities.

Maybe they're getting the beach episode out of the way quickly before they introduce the dramatic overarching story? Combine that with introducing the last cute girl during the fan service episode is an okay tactic in my view. Next time, more Trains iN Anime!
