Midousuji wins the sprint by extreme bike throw. Happy times for Sohoku as all 6 reunite. Hakone's morale appears to be broken.

Midousuji got his sprint point and checked off another bullet point in his plan, but it cost him two more cards that he was probably saving for later. His strategy is still working, but he's working hard to make sure all the minor goals are met.

I guess it shouldn't be too much of a surprise for Midousuji to be able to lean back so far on the bike if he was able to lean so far forward. Still, that's a right freakshow he's putting on.

Cycling club? What's that? This is the Anime Club and we just happen to like riding bikes, right?

Kinjou and Makishima knew the hard part for Onoda was going to be the flats, but enduring that before he has fun on the gentle slope was all part of the preparation.

Did the screen get blurry when Tadokoro saw those yellow jerseys in the distance? And why did I get this lump in my throat? Damn pollen in the air...

Tadokoro shed manly tears of gratitude, but it was up to Kinjou to express the entire team's emotion to Onoda.

Yeah. Stupid pollen...

When this anime started, we got this impression that the seniors were all these aloof aces, but when the cracks started showing in Makishima about Onoda finally giving him a climbing partner, we saw that Kinjou, Tadokoro, and Makishima didn't want riders filling out a roster. They wanted new brothers. Just look at all the hugging and smiling going on. Good job by the author in slowly drawing these personality traits out, and to have them revealed when they overcome adversity. That's sports anime.

With Sohoku finally running on all six cylinders, they finally catch up to the front of the race, and they see Hakone breaking apart on a riser with grim faces and Midousuji looking triumphant. At least he thinks his strategy of beating their ace sprinter to demoralize them is working. I'm not so sure. Hakone has their own brotherhood, and Shinkai losing by 2 hundredths of a second shouldn't be threatening that. We'll see what the real deal is next time.

Cycling Porn.

This week we have extreme sprinting, the feed zone, and some long overdue pedaling scenes of Onoda's fast cadence.

Extreme forward position standing on the pedals means extreme bike throw? I hope Midousuji has learned not to scrape the crotch out of his chamois.

Who taught these kids how to hand off musette bags? Running while a cyclist tries to grab the straps makes things harder, plus you might trip and make things even worse. Just stand there like the pro soigneurs, and get good at the quick hand-off.

We haven't seen Onoda's lugged chromoly in a while. Still smooth and fast. Plus, having him use the Catlike helmet from a few years ago with the big holes really accentuates his big glasses. It's a good thing the artist doesn't try to put helmet brand logos on, because I have no idea how he would try to mangle Giro, Bell, Limar, or the others.

I wonder how stressful it is to try to draft off Makishima when he's out of the saddle. I've followed some squirrelly guys in a paceline, but they kept moving their line all over the place. Makishima looks like he stays on the same line, but it's more like a snake or a sine wave moving back and forth on that line.
