Ugh. You put filler in my filler.
As a quick aside to the uninitiated for the media juggernauts of Japan known as One Piece and Naruto, the bulk of their animated series is an adaptation of their respective weekly manga, or comics. However, while action scenes take up many pages in graphic page format, they may take up mere seconds in animated form. So, when the animation producers, who operate semi-autonomously from the manga artist, "catch up" to the source material, they need to fill the series with side stories. The original Naruto series filled in almost 100 episodes before beginning to animate the current Naruto Shippuuden.
So in this episode, we have some filler material with the 7 tail beast host (Naruto is the host of the 9 tail beast), which is a flashback to some other filler material from 2 years ago when Naruto met some of the other tailed-beast hosts on some random missions. I have a feeling they won't have a flashback to the filler material of the 3 tail beast host, since he was animated as some poor sap little kid, instead of the powerful chief ninja of the Hidden Mist village. I mentioned the animation producers operate independently, right? Well, let's skip right over that, then, shall we?
What's important in this meta-filler episode is that the masked Madara finds out the actual Madara has been reanimated and is currently fighting all 5 chief ninjas of the villages making up the Allied Ninja Army. Presumably, next episode will be action packed with the 8 and 9 tail hosts of Naruto and Killer B taking on the reanimated hosts of the other tailed beasts, except for the one tail, since Gaara is alive, and as the Hidden Sand chief ninja, is facing the reanimated Madara.
