Episode 4 — “Double Seven Part IV”
Hmm.
I thought Mahouka had put the Weeds vs. Blooms debate to rest in the first season. But it stuck the ugly prejudice onto the unlikable Shippou. The kid needed a lesson on how the main branch family usually deserves its status in the meritocratic system of the Ten Families. Likewise, he needed someone to obliterate his ignorance about how individuals can thoroughly surpass bigoted expectations. That someone, of course, is Tatsuya Shiba. Mahouka aims for this small vignette between story arcs to start Shippou’s path to redemption. Okay, fine. But that child’s starting point is a shit smear on the bottom of Tatsuya’s shoe. Shippou has much work to do.
Heh.
Shiba the Destroyer, a.k.a. Mahesvara, still runs covert ops for the military. Tatsuya’s suit got an upgrade. Thus ends the Double Seven arc in Mahouka. The external influence on the anti-magic propaganda operation will need another avenue after it chooses violence against news sites.
What a dumbass. Shippou thinks the Saegusa family “used” Tatsuya in his magic fusion demonstration for… reasons. The idiot thinks the Saegusas manipulate evil conspiracies everywhere for influence. Fight! It’s time for a magic duel. Morisaki has some experience with holding grudges and losing his temper. Shippou insists on involving Kasumi’s twin sister, Izumi, because everyone knows the pair works best as a single fighting unit.
Well, that ended in a draw. Ha. It was a draw until Shippou complained. His last attack would have killed the Saegusa twins, which was against the rules. His angry blush makes me laugh. Ack. Shippou called Tatsuya the worst thing he could have in Mahouka, a “Weed.” How did Miyuki keep from freezing the kid into subatomic particles? Oh, good. Somebody else punched that fucker in his fucking stupid face. Hagane Tomitsuka had enough. Tomitsuka challenged Shippou to another duel. We know who will win already.
The point of Tomitsuka’s demonstration is that Shippou’s most potent attack is worth nothing compared to a skilled opponent. And worse, the one who embarrassed him could not hold his own against the “Weed,” Tatsuya Shiba. Miyuki also wanted to sate her appetite for revenge, which the demonstration match assuaged. Shippou’s eyes couldn’t even keep up with the action. Miyuki loves seeing her big brother dominate because Mahouka has always been about Tatsuya worship.

Aw. Will the Shippou–Saegusa reconciliation begin with Kasumi Saegusa and Takuma Shippou? Who cares? Shippou needs a few more punches to his gut and his face to disabuse him of bigotry and delusional conspiracy theories. Dominating magic power comes from talent and practice. Not someone’s family name.
Epilogue time for Mahouka. Let Maya Yotsuba brag about Tatsuya a little bit, too. She has no choice but to install Miyuki as the next head of the Yotsuba clan. Because Miyuki’s the only one who can control the walking neutron bomb.
The MOVAL Suit is so badass. Tatsuya looks like an evil version of Iron man
