BREAK.24 — Their Last Sprint
Cycling Porn
- In the flashbacks of Team Sohoku’s Friendship Race, Yowamushi Pedal shows us the last loving looks of Onoda’s teammates’ bikes before the season finale. Teshima’s Cannondale, Imaizumi’s Scott, Naruko’s Pinarello, and Aoyagi’s Corratec take a final bow.
- Onoda’s nine-speed Shimano Dura-Ace crank and groupset spin fast.
- Both Onoda and Manami spark their gears into different cogs for a hill sprint. Onoda’s Shimano shifter moves inward for a smoother spin. But Manami’s Campagnolo thumb shifter jumps his chain into a heavier gear. This discrepancy matters because Manami ran out of fast gears while Onoda has more cogs for an explosive sprint.
Hmm.
Arakita had to accept Kinjou’s word that Onoda adjusted to Makishima’s absence and that THE NATIONAL CHAMPION OF JAPAN rides for his friends instead of personal glory. Arakita rode part of last year’s race with Onoda, so he should know how that kid operates.
Yowamushi Pedal’s author had to jam in both Toudou and Makishima to cheer on their protégés. Toudou’s appearance felt bolted on and lacked the emotional impact of Makishima yelling for Onoda. In the last kilometer, we also saw the women in the racers’ lives spur them on. The Class Prez and Mrs. Onoda watched their loved ones two episodes ago.
Next time, the finish line awaits. Who wins? THE NATIONAL CHAMPION OF JAPAN has extra gears on his bike that last year’s runner-up lacks, but will it be the deciding factor? Of course!
Heh.
Yowamushi Pedal showed us scenes from a recap movie before the New Generation season started. Onoda needed some time to screw his head back on after Makishima abruptly left at the end of the first movie. After the “Friendship Race,” Teshima knew Onoda was ready to keep his title as THE NATIONAL CHAMPION OF JAPAN. But who else would believe it? Oh, just Kinjou, Makishima, Tadokoro, Imaizumi, and Naruko. After Onoda stuck his foot back into his pedal, Manami would believe it, too. Manami rides for himself, but Onoda rides for his friends. Which spirit will the shounen genre celebrate in the series finale? You already know.
