Ranpo solves the mystery of the murdered author, but a new plot against the Armed Detective Agency begins.

Episode 42 — "A Perfect Murder and Murderer (Part 2)"

Hmm.

Bungou Stray Dogs made the conversation between Ranpo and Oguri tough to follow. The primary evidence was the photocopy of the last page of the novelist's manuscript. That led Ranpo to search for the actual paper, which led to Oguri's ultimate confession. But the most curious part of Ranpo's meeting with Oguri inside Poe's novel world was Ranpo's mimicry of Fyodor's Gift. That's the essential foreshadowing event for Ranpo gaining personal revenge against the Crime and Punishment Gift user.

Heh.

Ranpo sits next to Oguri and tells him how guilty he is. All the other characters need minutes and minutes to catch up to the master detective. The policewoman doesn't like the police detective's smoking. Hahaha! Poe's ringtone is a raven's caw! You shall pick up the phone nevermore! Bungou Stray Dogs slays me. Ah. Ranpo called him from the taxi. Oguri's confession will play out to the police. Oguri was the mystery writer's best friend, but he killed him at the novelist's request. Why? Then, he could fulfill his friend's dream of creating the perfect unsolvable murder.

Ranpo maneuvered Oguri into Poe's Gift. Does Ranpo know how Fyodor's Crime and Punishment Gift works? My theory is that he makes people commit suicide through a sense of guilt and justice. But it's hazy how he convinced his targets to do that. But how does the Giftless Ranpo have one inside Poe's version of the murder mystery manuscript? I will file this away for later in the Bungou Stray Dogs season. Oguri can't escape Poe's world because he can't let his friend's dream fail. Explaining that is how he would exit the trap.

But Oguri's plan to let his friend have a public mystery came with a price: his friend's death and the release of Kunikida. All the exculpatory evidence suddenly reappeared when Oguri undid his Gift. But Fyodor didn't like that. His new accomplice, Nikolai, tied up a loose thread. This new group, Decay of the Angels, is still targeting the Armed Detective Agency. Ranpo got the message.
