Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! - Episode 13 - 10 Second Anime

Jahy works at the Beach Hut Maou, finding misfortune there. Druj seeks out Jahy for much-needed abuse.

Restoration Plan No. 13 – “Druj is Not Happy!”

Hmm.

I enjoy how The Great Jahy keeps the rules about mana crystal fragments consistent each week. Granted, we only know two rules about them, so that gives the creators room to craft funny stories around them. The first rule is that humans suffer misfortune when they come near them. The second is that more is more – Jahy can use magic longer and more strongly, and humans suffer even more poor luck. Kyouko, the Magical Girl, is the prime example of human suffering from the red crystal’s curse. This week, Jahy correctly induced that the beach where the Beach Hut Maou operates was the location of a pile of crystal fragments.

We don’t know how Jahy controls the magic power she draws from the red crystal. It’s also unimportant. The Great Jahy is a slice-of-life comedy show. We just need to know the motivations behind the characters so we can get to the next joke or heartwarming scene. That was true in two instances at the beach. The first was how Jahy swam to wherever a beachgoer ran into bad luck. That made for an escalating series of gags in which Jahy unintentionally became a superhero saving the day.

The second instance of magical crystals behaving to match the narrative need came when the pile of shards began to glow sympathetically with Jahy’s empty crystal. The Great Jahy made a beautiful scene that reminded us of bioluminescent creatures that glow in the ocean at dusk. It was a symbol of hope and confirmation that Jahy made progress in collecting the crystals to restore the Dark Realm.

Meh.

This week’s installment was the beach episode, but it disappointed me. Yes, we had the formulaic plot point of working at the local beach hut. Yes, Jahy worked on her tan (when she doesn’t need to) in a strappy outfit. Yes, we saw a picturesque sunset scene. But, no, we did not see any of the characters wear revealing swimsuits!

Jahy wore what she always does as the Great Jahy, so there was no novelty there. But what about the Store Manager? Where was the Landlady in her sporty suit showing off her abs? Gah! It was a missed opportunity for fanservice of epic proportions. The Store Manager’s top half would have qualified alone. If The Great Jahy ever brings back those entertaining omake skits from the first half of the anime’s schedule, please let’s revisit the beach. Please?

Oh, yes. Yes! It’s The Great Jahy beach episode! Eh, I suppose that Jahy doesn’t need to wear a different revealing swimsuit. Her strappy demon outfit allows for massive amounts of underboob. I doubt we’ll see exotic tan lines from this excursion. Ooh. The Store Manager shows bellybutton! Naturally, they’re all working at the Beach Hut Maou. If it’s for the uncle, does that mean his name is Maou?

Misfortune, already. Jahy heard natural phenomena kept tourists away from the beach during its busiest time, so there must be mana crystals here. Of course, Uncle Maou suffered poor luck too. He threw out his back, so Jahy needs to work even more time at the beach hut. She can’t go out looking for a pile of red crystal fragments.

Jahy can’t resist! There’s too much calamity! She needs to find those shards! She’ll even punch a shark and save human lives! Wow. She spent a day saving people from the ocean and used up her mana. Aw. At her lowest moment, the crystals called out to her. She needs buckets! Unfortunately, she won’t receive pay for her work at the beach hut. It doesn’t matter. The Great Jahy raked in a massive haul of red crystal shards.

Let’s check in with Druj. Her company’s doing well. She needs to meet the chairman of the board to receive praise. She’s hating life. Salvation! She sees the Great Jahy plotting her next move against the Magical Girl. Oops. Jahy thought it was the right time to give Druj the carrot instead of the stick, and Druj would not have it.

Hahahaha! Jahy thinks Druj saw through all her lies and is calling her out. That’s not it! Druj is a masochist. She needs to fill up on verbal and psychological abuse. The kindest thing to do is treat her like a used tissue! Of course, if Jahy were a true sadist, she’d refuse. You can’t give your slave what they wish. You need to withhold and parcel out the pleasurable bits with restraint.

The Great Jahy knew no such restraint in the Dark Realm, so she spoiled the masochistic Druj. Jahy shoots Druj the “kind of sus” face. Druj eats it up! Thankfully, that was the diversion Jahy needed to steer Druj away from realizing that Jahy is not as sadistic in the human world. See? Jahy was there to meet her heart, Kokoro!

Oh, drama in the epilogue. Jahy will fight the Magical Girl with blue plastic buckets of red sand. Next time, that duel won’t end as Jahy hopes!
