Mahouka focused on Shiori because she would face Shizuku in the semifinals of the magic trap shooting competition. The Third Magic High School thought they would have an easy time with Shizuku since she used so few spell combos in the early rounds. However, she and Tatsuya limited the number of spells to fool the later opponents. Shiori's loss of confidence would affect the other events she needed to compete in.
Mayumi loved how well Tatsuya supported Shizuku as an engineer. She couldn't stop touching him!
Honoka wondered how much she could rely on Tatsuya as her engineer for the magic surfing race. Was it okay to be selfish and have him do special training? Surely Tatsuya helps Miyuki the same way. It's not wrong to wish for Tatsuya's strong hands to rub all over her body, right? It's for sporting reasons, right? After Honoka got done embarrassing herself in front of Tatsuya, he helped her develop a strategy for her next race.
Because Honoka specializes in light magic, Tatsuya developed a distraction spell that would blind her opponents when she accelerates her surfboard. Her first victory solved her nervousness too.
Shiori and Airi have been friends for a long time. Shiori's devotion to Airi made her extra sulky when she lost to Shizuku. Airi had confidence in Shiori's abilities, but she was impatient for her friend to get out of her funk. Toko told Airi to let Shiori be because she wouldn't let her down when it mattered. Toko was right. Shiori arrived at the fencing event on time. She used her memory of how she first met Airi to get her mindset on the right track again. It won't matter if they run into Miyuki, though.
