Shingeki no Kyojin - The Final Season - Episode 75 - 10 Second Anime

Pieck infiltrates Paradis and forces a confrontation with Eren to signal a surprise attack.

#75 – “Heaven and Earth”

Hmm.

Shingeki no Kyojin demonstrates the limitations anime has when showing a beautiful woman on the screen, yet the artist’s style is not up to the task of capturing that beauty. Pieck’s introduction to the post-time skip story has always included some mention of how pretty she is. From having a fan club to how many people wave at her as she walks around, the author Isayama emphasizes how pretty she is to contrast with the Titan Power she has and how it changes her appearance to an ugly four-legged monster.

Shingeki no Kyojin artist Isayama is not up to the task of making Pieck look pretty, which would not have been an issue when Wit Studio handled the animation production. Now it matters because Mappa decided to do a one-for-one transposition of the manga source, which means Author Isayama needs to compensate for Artist Isayama. It was quite jarring to see Pieck walk near some Paradis soldiers and we needed to see the male ones make gawk and blush at her brief appearance. Yes, Pieck is a beautiful young woman. No, she doesn’t look like one, but the crowd reaction tells us she must be.

Heh.

Zeke looks like he’s been overcooked. Who was that girl Zeke saw in his memories? Uh, where did that Titan come from? That wasn’t one of the three he used to run away from Levi, or was it? Levi must not have dispatched it. It’s still healing, as we can see the steam come from it. Gross. That’s new. Perhaps Ksaver had a technique for preserving mortally injured Titan Powers using Pure Titans. We won’t be seeing Zeke again for a long time.

You can tell Shingeki no Kyojin wants to paint Jaegerists as bad guys because they put armbands on everyone. Eldians wear armbands behind walls in Marley and Paradis. No difference. Zeke took himself off the table, but his allies don’t know that. Their threat of turning hostages into Titans is toothless. Yelena explains they learned how to use the armband system from their enemies, among many other things. Pyxis makes a nice retort, “Such as how to make more of them.”

Eren’s closest friends debate his sanity. There’s still a germ of trust that he has a good reason to act this way. Yelena shot one of her Marleyans! She couldn’t stand the racist crap spouting from his mouth. At least she doesn’t think of Eldians as “devil spawn.” Oh? Did Yelena know about the Euthanasia Plan?

Oh, come on. Pieck tries playing a defector. We know that’s not serious. Eren doesn’t believe it either, but he’ll play along. Pieck lures Eren onto the roof where she can signal Galliard, I’m sure. Eren has such fine control on his Titan powers now. He can choose when to start healing his wounds.

Yelena explains the euthanasia plan will allow Eldians to slowly die off. Jean objects because the rest of the world will still come to attack Paradis. Yelena says the “rumbling” will act as a deterrent, but the royal bloodline will need to stay around using the Founding Titan. There’s a key detail here for allowing a new royal line for Eldians without the influence of King Fritz’s pacifism. Yelena is an idealist. She hopes Eren and Zeke’s names will pass on as legends for future millennia. Armin laughs hysterically. Has he seen through Zeke’s plan? Is Armin playing at crying? He’s always been too sincere.

Yes, Pieck is pretty. No, don’t rely on the shitty artwork. Look! The only one looking and not blushing is Galliard! Pieck doesn’t know that Zeke has royal blood, but suspects he knows how to “draw out the Founding Titan’s power.” Lots of mixing truth and lies here. There it is. Pieck didn’t betray Marley. Point out the enemy. She points straight at Eren. Boom! There’s the Jaw Titan. And there’s a Marleyan Zeppelin invasion force. Eren knows Reiner is up there.

See you in 2022.
