Subaru collapsed in relief after he told Echidna he had Returned by Death countless times to save his friends and he suffered no pain and she didn't die. His power comes from the Witch of Envy who resembles Emilia so he shouldn't have been that surprised another Witch wouldn't be affected by his power's curse. Still, we're 33 episodes into this anime adaptation and it's the first time Subaru could ever tell someone else what has been happening to him. Just having one other person share the pain, grief, and suffering he's been through is a massive emotional release.
